I've been reading a few threads here, but still don't get it... This one has nice photos, but don't quite understand the procedure: https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/302657-replacing-rear-bushes-wheel-bearings.html

How do I actually remove the hubs from the rear axle? I've got some rear road rumble, and when changing to winter tires yesterday I could do an inspection... I will have to remove the rear hub, as the bearing on the right side seems dried out - not loose in any way.

But how do I start? I can get the wheel off, the caliper and the brake disc. That's fairy easy, but then it is a big nut, which will be removed. But then what?

How do I get it off?
Special tools?

And how to I get the new one onto the axle again?

Help...

If its a new bearing with hub it just slides back on if you bought hub complete with bearing then it should have ABS ring already fitted just remember to torque nut.

I haven't bought it yet, but yes it is the complete hub with bearing. But regarding the ABS ring, isn't it direction specific?

Usually things are either seized or jammed, and I'd fear the bearing would be a nano-fit to the axle, preventing it from rotating on the axle itself.

No pullers or tools at all then. Just a socketset to remove the caliper etc.

If there are no precautions this seems like plug and play. (y)

How did you get on with this? was it as easy as you thought? I may have to attempt this myself soon

I am still waiting for the hub to arrive. 250 GBP Norwegien price... So I've ordered one from the UK. The bearing is rather noisy at the moment, so it will be done immediately. Will post pictures. (y)

Another question. All parts have arrived, I have a bearing puller, torque wrench, 32 mm "bit" and patience.

How do I put the hub/bearing back on the axle. Will it just slide on, or will I need to hammer it on. I suspect I need a hollow tube or other tool, just oversized the axle, to be able to knock the bearing into position without destroying it.

You don't need any pullers, the old hub, complete with bearing just slides off and the new one slides back on. Don't knock the bearing or you could damage the magnetic ring.
.

That sounds great. I plan on doing it between dropping off the wife at work on Saturday morning, and picking her up again in the afternoon. That means critical deadline where failure is not an option. (y)

Have you got a really big bar or impact driver to get the hub nut off? It's on really tight and takes a lot of force to undo.

Hm... No, I don't. I have a compressor though, so maybe I should invest in an impact driver aswell. That could be a very vital tip. (y)

I have what we call (directly translated) a "lazy man's arm". An extentable bar angled at the bottom. Something like this:

If you have the spare cash to buy a pneumatic impact driver I would get one. I have a big breaker bar and it failed to remove the hub nut on my car even though I put all my weight on it. I ended up paying a garage to do the job!

2 metres of scaffold pole (stilladser) would probably be cheaper.

Stillads(er) is Danish. :p

Shouldn't be a problem at the moment. Our house looks like this right now...
