Hey !
I just registered because i get my dad's old FIAT STILO 1.6 (2001). It rides perfectly bud i have few issues that i need to solve and i hope i can get some help from you guys ! Please excuse my english.

1. Front windshield wipers motor.
When i start-up my car the wipers will always get to "default position" - in my case is in the middle of front windshield. Its a faulty windshield motor ? Or is it possible to fix it without buying an new one ?

2. "Engine Failure"
Even that car rides just perfectly, and my friend mechanic take look at that baby and said its in OK state the car computer shows "Engine Failure" and "Service coupon" on the display. It is something that i should by heavily afraid of , or is it just "bad connection" or something :)

3. New car radio
I still have tape "Visteon" radio that is broken. I want to replace it with new one. I know that i have to buy a plastic rack to fit it in. But i want to ask if FIAT STILO uses standard ISO adapter or i must buy some cable ?

Thats all !
Thanks a lot in advance.

hi Ondra welcome to FF!

for your wiper problem, see here

the 'engine fault' could be a whole host of different things and without a 'diagnostics code' it's like having a stab in the dark. see if you can get the codes read by a local garage. You will need to know the codes that have been found and, for instance, they would be P0321/P1452/P0795... basically your looking for a P followed by 4 numbers. see if you can get these codes and come back to us! with them and we should be able to help you out with the problem

the 'service coupon' is quite an easy one. its basically the cars ECU telling you you have ran out of 'service slots' in the ECU. the ECU stores how many times the service indicator has been reset but it only has a limited amount of 'slots' that it can fill. you will need to do something called a 'Proxi Alignment' to reset the information on the ECU. you could do it yourself if you have the correct OBD2 leads and a registered copy of MES and a laptop. failing that you would have to return to dealer and let them do it. but if you have a laptop its actually cheaper to buy the MES software and OBD2 leads than it is to get Fiat to reset it. if you use the forum search for MES or FES there is LOTS of support on here(FES is what MES used to be called)

finally the radio. yes the standard plugs are ISO plugs BUT you will have to wire in a switched ignition feed to allow it to turn on and off with your ignition (all fiats are the same) on early fiats they never put a switched ignition feed in but on more recent CAN based fiats the radio is turned on and off across the CAN network. most if not all aftermarket radio units cant understand this ON/OFF signal from the CAN due to every manufacturer using different CAN signals.

i hope this helps you a little sorry for writing so much

you *should* be able to read the codes with Torque and the bluetooth ELM adaptors. but i have known connection issues with *some* really cheap adaptors. certainly worth a go!

MES do a mobile version too, dont forget, so it may be worth while getting that at some point if you only have a mobile device. as for proxi alignment on MES mobile, i dont know as i dont use MES mobile ;)

Re: the winsdcreen wiper . There was a fiat service item (like a recall but not so serious) for wipers on early stilos . I had the same problem in 2003. A detailed search on the forum might turn up the reference code for this , in case you've not yet solved the problem.

Sound awesome, can you link me to it ? Thanks!

Sorry its over 10 years since I had that wiper problem so I no longer have the paperwork.
If you search the forum here there are lots of posts regarding wiper problems, and more important, some solutions to these problems.

Thanks :)
I will change the wipers motor, since i get one pretty cheap today :)

Today i noticed quite a problem. When the car is idling (i dont know if its right translation) the engine RPM is fluctuating really rapidly, its not steady at all :( Also when im switching gears head lights are blinking/fluctuating too. I suppose its some problem with the alternator , am i right ? It cant be battery since i bought a new one last month.

btw.:
Today i ordered a OBD 2 module so hopefully i can resolve my "Check Engine" problem :)

Thanks in advance.

Hey Rich,
I recieved new ODB 2 Bluetooth adapter and decided to check my problems right away.
I used Torque app for my android phone. I WAS SHOCKED what comes from my "Check engine" problem

This is error codes i got:

"Pohonná jednotka" - Drive Unit

I tried to check your OBD 2 guide but my error codes are different.
Can you please help me with these problems :) Or recommend other OBD 2 software to use ?

P1220 is throttle position implausible. It would seem like you have an electrics problem. To start with I'd check your battery. With the ignition off the voltage should be around 12v with the engine running it should be around 13.2-14.8v

The next step would be to check voltage at the throttle valve and injectors.

The only code im worried about is the PCM fault but this could be down to funny voltages
