Hi guys. Quick question. Are the pollen filters universal amongst stilo? There's ones on fleabay for £5 for a 1.8 16v ... Mines a 1.9 jtd... Asking 10 quid.
Would the filter really vary that much between each variation of stilo? I know it's only 5 quid but times be tough mateys! ;)

I don't think they are the same - not sure why, but when I have looked before I found that the petrol's differed to the diesels - although I never actually compared the two physically..

Ripped mine out about the second day after I got the Stilo. Improved the air flow by 1000% and no ill effects on the system at all.

Are they not mainly there for personal health and comfort reasons (mine was black with dust ) and to protect the fan / motor etc?

Maybe so, but try to replace one, and then you will know. Not worth the energy, skinned knuckles and time you will spent on trying to replace it yourself. As I said mine has been running without for a couple of years now, with no ill effect.

*update *...
I took the filter out... It was stinking! Black and full of leaves! Never changed by looks. I am skint this month so attached the brush head to my hoover and cleaned the filter as thoroughly as I could. I then mixed up some washing detergent with fabreeze and some oxygen clean powder in warm water in my sink! Swished the filter around for 2 mins... The water turned black as the night! I left it soak for 20 mins... Took it out and rinsed it off! Was white and clean again!! Dried it off on the line overnight and refitted (easily tbh... Don't know what the fuss is on here about refitting them?) air flow is now powerful again and iv got protection from the filter + a lovely smell from the fabreeze! Easy to do!!

i use MANN Filters. the part codes are below
CU 2422 normal paper filter
CUK 2422 Carbon filter

according to their website these part numbers fit all the stilo models (Linky). the filter sits directly in front of the A/C evaporator (if you car is fitted with it) so i wouldnt advise not fitting one.

if your having trouble fitting it... this may help

Na this crap was clearly black road muck. It was on the inside of the box etc when I wiped it all out.

Yeah that's what I did in the end, I just couldn't hold the clutch pedal down with my hand long enough whilst trying to side the filter in. It would be a breeze if it was a LHD version

Wimp! :D
