I have this major problem with my airbag light on my stilo. First of all I have soldered up the 5 orange connectors around the car and that made no odds to the light so i decide to buy an emulator off ebay. It had to be soldered in as well as a previous owner had got rid of the connector for the ocs. After all this the light still is there. Is there anyone out there that can help me or point any mistakes i've made. i really need this damn light to go as the MOT is in 2 weeks.

Do u have multiscan and an obd cable? U can at least then read the airbag module and see wat the error is so u know what needs fixed.

U may need to mod the obd cable to read the airbag module, but im sure theres info on that around somewhere... Sounds like u know how to use a soldering iron so i think its just a case of joining some pins together.

Also the free version of multiscan does airbag module i think, tho ive never done it yet

Also if u cant get it sorted in time, rearrange ur appointment a few days before the date, if the lights on it will def fail but i think u know that

No your not allowed any warning lights on and has been like that for a while now... They also now test hazards and a few other bits they never used to

I've read that if you take the bulb out they can't fail it?

Aye that wud work if it had handy bulbs screwed into the back of the cluster... unfortunately its all PCB mounted LEDs so that'd be a nitemare....

Suppose if you took the front off the cluster (easy) you could stick some black tape over the light, or colour it in with a black marker lol

best to get it sorted, airbags if faulty could deploy while your driving (bit extreme but could happen)

ELM cables are cheap and the software is free... would be fairly painless to read the fault codes and at least identify the offending component

Also usually MOT inspectors would look for the lights coming on at ignition and off when started, to prevent taking the bulb out.... in the olden days people used to wire the faulty light in parallel with a non-faulty light, eg batt light... therefore the faulty one comes on at ignition and off when started (y)

Things have moved on from that tho now and are a bit more civilised :)

Ive done that and i cleared the codes and there are two that keep coming back. The codes are P001B and P0008
P001B- Drivers airbag squib 2nd stage o.c
p0008- Drivers airbag squib o.c
Im not sure where to go from there really????

What type of diagnostic scanner did you use?

Codes beginning with P are engine codes (Powertrain). Airbag code should begin with B or C. (Body or Chassis).

If your problem is with the driver's airbag, it's the one in the middle of the steering wheel. It's a 2 stage airbag.
.

I took the car to a garage near me and thats what he told me. Although i think im gonna get a cable for myself and use that

Something i forgot to mention is that the horn, cruise control and the buttons for the radio all dont work. I dont know if that makes any difference

If your getting squib and 2nd stage squib o.c and all the rest of your buttons dont work id take a guess and say nothing is connected... my next stage would be to take the airbag out

Just to mention, airbag faults are classified into graded severity categories. If you fix the OCS the light will go out after a couple of startups, but if you change a faulty impact sensor, the fault will not delete itself, you have to use FES (MultiECUScan) or Fiat's Examiner - after it is replaced.

This bit of info is key. The car cannot communicate between steering wheel and body computer.

You need to find and fix the connections to the steering wheel. Probably needs airbag removal then see what's underneath. As you're handy with a soldering iron, you'll hopefully be able to fix it fine.

Just to rap things up i found out it was the clock spring and replaced it, and now it is fine :) thanks for your help everyone
