Hey everyone,

Was reading up on retro fitting cruise control last week and followed the guides on the forum, used an alfa 147 stalk. Mine was wired as far as engine bay, so anyway followed guide, hooked all up, and its all working tickity boo (y)

Of course i looked at the topics on the cruise control light, and it seemed this was ground that hadnt really been sorted other than reprogramming modules and needing software etcetc, and even at that still pretty challenging.

Well mine is still a bit of work in progress, but i have it sussed (coz no light would bug me lol), was actually easier than i thought it was going to be, but its just a case of soldering a single wire onto the PCB of the cluster to feed the LED.

I have that bit done and as you can see from the photo i can now light up the cruise symbol anytime i wish. Need to order some resistors to reduce the voltage down and hook it all up to the stalk, but im just wondering if theres any interest in this? If there is ill take some more pics and do a guide for it. so if your in any way handy with a soldering iron its pretty easy.

Sorry about the pic, it was quite sunny when i took it... as u can see the car isnt even running, yet i have the light on... :slayer:

Sure lemme know if anyone thinks this is worth a guide

From what i read there was still issues with doing this via multiscan, and the version that can do it i wasnt sure had even been released, certainly prob cudnt do it with the free version anyways.... From what i read about it those posts seemed to die off in 2010, maybe i missed a better post on it

its just as easy to activate the cruise control light via Multiscan

Just wondering if you or anyone else has actually managed to activate the light with multiecuscan? if so what cable did you use?

I have an elm327 and a vagcom kkl but there are still modules i cant connect to, eg body computer etc... maybe its just settings at my end, but can connect to engine and a few other bits

You can activate the cruise control light function with the current free version (v1.6) of Multiecuscan via: Engine - Your ECU type - Actuators - Cruise control light.

As you need to connect to the engine ECU, either cable should work without adaptor or modification.
.

I had thought tho the problem was that the body computer controlled the dash light and with a retrofit installation it didnt 'understand' the 'cruise control is on' signal when sent from ecu without being reprogrammed so that it knew the car now had cruise control.

Ill maybe just nip out now and test it, i had thought it wasnt that easy.. maybe i wasted that hour yesterday!

i done mine using the software, always handy for fault codes and information

i just nipped out to try it - from the engine ECU it seemed like more of a test feature - did the high coolant temp one and glow plug one and the lights came on etc... cruise control one didnt come on at all though, took it out for a drive, and nope, still didnt come on when cruise control was on.

Maybe that only works on vehicles that are prewired to the steering colum or something.

Looks like i'll just have to finish my own project after all then

thought it was Re-Learn, i will take some screenshots if you want in a bit,(after the last Touring Car race!)

It should have it this time!

Hey guys, just wondering if the cruise light does anything fancy when done via ecu? Or is it just on when the stalk is? Or is there any change depending on whether the cruise is active or in standby etc?

The light just comes on when the cruise control switch is switched on and goes off when the switch is off. You should also get messages in the display saying Cruise control activated and Cruise control de-activated.
.

when i turn on the cruise control it says "Cruise control Active or On" (cant remember which one). and the green c/control light comes on. and sure its says when you tap the clutch/brake/hand brake or turn off it says "Cruise Control off"

Mines in the garage atm, to fully confirm whats it says on the dash. did you get it to work?

Paul

I've done no more with it yet.... only reason i asked was when i soldered the wire on, there are 2 LEDs in where the cruise control light is, just wondered if the other one lit when it was active/in use or on stand by etc.

Because im doing it manually the display wont obviously say cruise control on etc, but that wouldnt bother me... if its just green light when stalk on then that'll be easy enough. Just need to get a resister to lower the voltage then ill hook it up. Might do it at the weekend, ill see.

Thanks for lettin me know anyways

Use the software pal, works a treat. Only £43 and you won't regret it.

Im thinkin about it, went to hook up the light today only the alfa stalk doesnt seem to be able to switch an automotive relay ffs.... Wud need to get a low current relay to get it workin... Wat puts me off buyin the software is a lot of the programmable stuff still involves buying the code number from fiat.... Decisions decisions....

Are you referring to my actual steering wheel type Mark or the Cruise control cut out?

Super Sport Steering Wheel, check this link to another post with all the details. It was made originally for the Stilo Blue Limited Edition.

The only thing is, it is very expensive, cost me £260, but I must admit it is high quality leather.

Order from Fiat parts, ask for a discount as it is old stock now, they gave me a (small) percentage off mine.
