Hello,

Since this week my Stilo Abarth Selespeed is jumping to neutral. (from 1 of 2 while braking/stopping/almost accelerating again).

There is also a strange noise coming up from under the hood. I made a YT video, maybe someone recognizes the sound. But i'm not allowed to post it here.

I also tried to diagnose with MultiEcuScan software. But there are no errors in the logs unfortunatly. The pressure seems to be ok, it's around 50.

Thanks for your help!

When the car goes out of gear back to neutral, the pressure drops to approximately 25 bar. That is to low!
Unfortunately MultiEcuscan crashed when saving data.....

Pump or accumulator?

(Maigretnz watched my YouTube video, with a strange buzzing sound. I am not allowed to post it here yet since I'm having just a few posts)

I would say that if the pressure bounces back up then the pump is OK and accumulator is the problem. I found it an easy job to to once I had made my custom tool. Make one up or I can borrow mine.
I have not had trouble with pump so I can't comment on pump symptoms.

I bought a used accumulator for just 50 euro's (incl. shipping). I'm living in Holland, so borrowing your custom tool isn't really possible unfortunately :)

I will make one myself if neccessary, I guess I have to remove the battery, battery case, and a hose?

Procedure I used.
Remove the following.
The engine cover and battery cover.
Induction air duct/tube.
Use MultiECUscan to de-pressurise Accumulator.
Check pressure minimal
Separate plug to selespeed pump.
Disconnect battery (probably not necessary)
Remove Accumulator. Watch out for residual pressure spitting oil out as it is lifted clear.
Reassemble.

For those interested, cost to send tool to Europe 13euro, 3-10 days.
Instructions on how to make it here.

Today I changed the accumulator. It's not going back to neutral anymore and the pressure keeps between 40~52 bar. But I still have the strange buzzing sound.

Can it be any air in the system? I did fill some oil but not so much as came out I think....

(This is my video with the buzzing sound, before changing accumulator but it's still the same: )

It does sound like perhaps a pump problem - but are we hearing the motorised throttle body instead? It's too confusing with the engine running as well.

Perhaps make another video where you open the bonnet without opening the driver's door (reach across from the other side of the car). Put the recording device/camera under the bonnet and set it going, then open the driver's door without turning the key on.

The sound we should hear then is the pump running for about 5-10 seconds. If it makes an unusual buzzing noise, then the pump motor or the relay that turns it on might be the fault. If it sounds normal (it is a kind of whining/buzzing noise anyway when working correctly), then the cause of the noise is something else.

Thanks for your input. I'm very sure the pump is running normal. The pressure is also okay. It sounds normal too, prior to start engine.
If you watch my movie you can hear the buzzing noise after the engine shut off for a few seconds.
I also replaced the pump relay with a temporarily one, makes no difference unfortunately.

One problem fixed so far, it's shifting okay :)

This thread looks the same: https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/319360-fiat-stilo-abarth-selespeed-gearbox-strange-problem.html

I was trying to find out where the strange sound comes from.

Then I realized the selespeed pump is pumping every 10 seconds, on idle engine!
Can it be a leak in the hydraulic system? Without leaking any oil? Leaking air?

I fixed it!
I don't know exactly which option in multiecuscan, but it was something with had to do with clutch, and something with air in the hydraulic system.

While running it I had to press the brake firmly to press the air out of the system. I also filled a bit selespeed tutela oil.

The sound is gone! It's driving fine, and the relay is acting normal. The pump runs only after 2 minutes @ idle motor.
