Hey guys, I'm new here, just registered. I am sorry for barging in like this but I really need help. From the posts I've read in the past two days here, I see that this is the place i gotta ask.

Owning a 2004. FIAT Stilo 1.6 16V ED/Sequent TNG. I'm kind of new to the car, bought it 2 months ago. These things below started appearing three days ago. So not sure what's going on with it, first issue is this one:

I start it, the yellow engine icon appears with an "Engine Fault" sign but the car keeps runing. Everything seems fine until at one moment, during driving it I lose the throttle control. I keep pressing the gas paddle but the car isn't reacting to it - he reacts only by a bit when I totally step on it. He is turned on still but slowing down ofcourse. The only thing I can do after that is to stop and restart it or restart it while moving. There are no rules by which this thing comes and goes so to say, it happens randomly - no matter the RPMs I'm at. This happens no matter on which fuel I'm driving it, tested that already. Could anyone tell me what can be the issue? If you need any additional insight, let me know I'll try to add more informations concerning this problem.

Second, the fuel/temp meters are working randomly. Sometimes they work ok, sometimes they do not react at all. So not sure what could provoke that behaviour.

Both of these issues do not have the same timeline, the meter problem started appearing a bit earlier.

I am aware that diagnostics are nesessary in order to determine both causes but I wanted to ask here anyways, maybe someone had the same issue and fixed it before.

I'll post some pics of my ride in a day or two, my camera is in Greece with my family at the moment while I stayed home. Thanks for reading this, even more thanks for any replies. : )

first thing to check is the battery. weak batteries cause all sorts of weird and wonder faults on stilos.

second thing i would check is relays. my car used to 'die' like you have described. i would loose the dials on the dash and have to pull over and restart the engine. my particular problem was with relay T02 which is on top of the battery in the engine bay.

hope this helps

Hello Marko,

Welcome to probably the right place to find all sorts of Stilo related knowledge.
I'm sorry to hear that you have issues with the car but searching around on the forum you will find a lot of useful information.

I would go with what Richi said, you need to look over a couple of things in order to find the root of the problem but start with the power source, check the battery does it hold a sufficient charge and then move on to some of the main connections, relays then you should ask someone to check it with a Scan tool for any obvious signs of a fault(s).

I'm from Serbia as well, zdravo :) so If I can be of some advice just message me. Will be happy to help.

your instrument cluster is probably faulty - i can repair this for you but you would have to send your cluster to the Netherlands...
Your throttle problem is probably ecu or throttle body related - i could provide a virginised used IAW5NFT1/ T9 ecu when you need one.
Further info by PM please....

Your ecu is done mate, go to the fiat forum serbia and look for a crnisale member. He is doing ecu repairs and hecan sort it out.

All these problems you have, many other 1.6 users had and their ecu was at the end of life....

I would do diagnostic check first as previously said throttle body could be faulty

same problem, with mine, and a friend also sold his for scrap.at 53000 miles
nobody could find the faults.
I had a new cluch fitted at 56000 thats when the problems started.
on the display panel Iv had loose conection/ temp sensor/allternator/secuity/showing and had 3 dinostics tests, but because the fault goes when i re/start i;e the cpu re;boots
no fault is recorded.all o/k when engine cold, but cuts out when stopped

Check your electrics D4 as you said you got clutch done.

Hi all
I have allmoust the same problem as themarko now with my Fiat Stilo 1.6
I used to have only problem when engine warm car cuts off when changing gears
it dont stop on 700 it just drop and cut off. but after many contacts cleaning on all of sensors i must disturbed something
an now car even cut off on start and have trouble to remain on(i must push acc pedal
all the time until he somehow manage to remain on)
Now i doned whole testing on battery, earth points voltage drop test. All seem fine
Car off voltage 12.5 -12.9. Car on voltage 14.1 -14,3 on idle and when reving.

Big thing i discovered after i caused new bad behavior is that when i move cables that goes into ECU B connector car for some time start ok like it allways did.
And after few rides i belive vibrations again move cables in connector or pins on ECU itself and bad starting is back(together with limited rpm to some 1100 and no reacting to acc pedal)

I have big hopes its just bad cabling in connector or on ECU pins.
Will try to open connector these days and recheck all wires in it (something about 50) have good connection. If there is no loose ones, then ill gather courage to open ECU and ispect pins solderings. :)

Keep you informed and I wish user Deckhair5 will read this and give some advice.

I readed so many treads here on forum(probably like a book of 1000 pages)
and by my opinion Dechair5 is most helping one and have most experience and knowledge with Stilo 1.6.
