My idle was very lumpy, and sometimes the car would idle so low it was on the verge of stalling - so I found a guide on here to clean the Inlet Valve.
I went to halfords and got some carb cleaner, and cleaned the inlet valve. I then did the throttle position relearn procedure (ignition on for 1 minute etc etc).

The idle is now rock solid, and I the accelerator is smooth when I first start up.

However, I seem to have caused a problem - the car isn't as smooth as it was. It's now lumpy on the overrun - especially in 3rd, if I take my foot of the accelerator, instead of normal engine braking, it's lumpy and judders a bit.
Another problem, is if I've been in 1st gear moving along in traffic, when I let the clutch in and take my foot of the gas, the car keeps the revs up for a few seconds.

I'm not sure whether it revs to around 2k each time, or if that's just where it was when I pressed the clutch. Yesterday as I stopped outside of the drive, the revs stayed up for almost 5 seconds.

Any help or advice?! I hope I haven't broken it too much (n)

When you say Inlet Valve, do you mean motorised throttle plate? I'm not sure which engine you have but I had something similar with a 1.2 Punto Sporting. Just a suggestion - something I've found with throttle re-learns is that they can take several days for everything to re-learn and settle down - so, give it a few more days :) then re-check inlet hoses for airtightness (check clamps, look for splits).

Ah yes forgot to say - its the 1.6 petrol. I've driven quite a bit over the last few days so it doesn't look like its that. I can only think that I've just moved some of the build up, and it's sticking open sometimes.
I've ordered a throttle body from a breakers/parts store on eBay for £25, so I'll try it and see how it goes.

Throttle issue (still)

Looking for advice on my problem - here's the story. Sorry for the length of the post! The car is a 1.6 litre 3 door Stilo active.

About a month ago, I decided to clean the throttle body as my idle was very rough - constantly bobbing around from 600-800, and 600 was a bit low.

So I cleaned the throttle body with carb cleaner, and did the throttle relearn (with the ignition key for 1 minute etc etc).
My idle was rock solid after that - however, the revs would hang, especially in traffic in first gear. I'd depress the clutch and the revs would stay up for a few seconds. It also was very lumpy on the overrun, and a smooth gear change was hard.
The local mechanic took it in and cleaned the throttle body, in case there was still something in there causing it to stick. No change (n)

I ordered a throttle body from a breakers on ebay. A few days ago I got that fitted by the local mechanic. Driving home it felt great, and the next day too.
However, driving it today, it's gone back to how it was!! :bang:

I've done another throttle relearn, in case it hadn't had one when it was changed - no help.

Short of taking it to the Fiat specialist/dealer, and paying a lot of money to get it diagnosed and fixed, I'm not sure what to do.

Any ideas anyone? The problem makes the car very tiring to drive - changing gear often results in a jolt through the transmission, and balancing between throttle on and the overrun is quite jumpy.
