General Oil change

The diesel spec oil is supposed to have more additives to help with the engine cleaning as the diesel engine produces more soot ,as you will notice it is not long before oil in diesel becomes black it does not mean the oil is bad in fact it means the oil is doing it's job and helping to keep the sooty parts at bay, I have always used diesel specific oil but have actualy put in an oil that is suitable for petrol and diesel this time to see if any difference, and so far no difference and no extra noise from the engine the oil quite often is not a real concern to me as I have a thing about changing it often , if I was to leave it in till service interval that is the manual by fiat I would certainly go for diesel type oil and no doubt spend that little bit more for the extra additives to help keep the engine clean as the oil would be working for a longer period of time, and many use oil that is suitable for both petrol and diesel regulary as they could not sell it if it did not meet the API/ACEA specifications,

Good info (y) Do we know who makes/supplies Halfords oil?

Well that seems a little bit of a mystery Philip I did some reading up and yes confused myself before this oil change , trying to find info on who made what,, there were various names mentioned such as comma, castrol, and even that Asda got their oil from Halfords and stuck their label on it, but what I did find was that oils are tested to check they meet those API/ACEA specification numbers and then extra additives added that then makes the more expensive oils with the fancy labels, is then all about personal preference on which oil a person chooses to use, I am certainly no wizard on oil and take alot of what is scribbled on these bottles with a pinch of salt, as my thinking is regular oil changes are more important than a fancy label, obviously I am not out to change anyones view on which oil they choose, but I am happy with the oil I use it meets the specifications in the manual and knowing it will not be in the engine for long till a fresh fill is put in, many would not think of using halfords stuff, then there are many that have done 200k using it, alot I think is down to driving style and regular maintenance/oil changes..but not want to go starting an oil war,,, either way the stuff that goes in our tanks and engines is expensive enough
