is the egr blanked yet?

if not, get it blanked.

if you have just filled up with fuel - how much fuel? check the fuel lines at the back to the tank, I doubt there is a pump issue however.

Diagnostics are a must now, you need some real time data. ALso, in 1st/second gear hesitation, you absolutely sure the clutch is ok?

The EGR was blanked off last Friday and has given mixed results since. Yesterday I was low on fuel and there was no apparent flat spot. In the evening I filled up at Shell (about 55litres) and took it out for a spin and I noticed it a few times.

The clutch is definitely fine, my mechanic checked it thoroughly before fitting my new engine. He even said if it wasn't he would have fitted a new clutch.

Your right Clivvy, diagnostics is a must now. I'm just getting fed up of getting repeated faults and niggles. The last time I had a flat spot the air pipe that connects to the MAF was loose. Therefore my mechanic fitted a jubilee clip to tighten it up and that fixed it. He's checked all the relevant pipes and all is ok.

Thanks Clivvy (y) I've enquired about one of them and I came across a company called ScanTool Direct. I now know what I need :)

Right, I need some help on deciding which cable to go for (I know I said I know what I need) but I've been told 2 different cables.

This one KKL http://www.scantool-direct.co.uk/mu...n-switching-multiecuscan-compatible-121-p.asp It has different pins to select different modules. I've been told that I can't access the service reset function without the ELM but I don't need that (unless it re-appears!)

or

ELM 327 v1.4 from http://www.idiagnostics.co.uk/

Both cables read and clear fault codes which is what I need but which one is best? Is it the KKL because I can access more modules...? I want to order one but I don't know which one to select.

Thanks

Phil

Right......update on the situation. I'm not going to get the cables and multiecuscan, I've decided to see my mate as and when I need to. I haven't got round to seeing my mate for any live data yet but I'll probably do so this week......maybe:)

However my mechanic did some work for me over the weekend and I mentioned this problem to him. Anyway he had a code scanner but its only for diesels 2004+ (mines a 2002). The scanner did however pick out a problem with the MAP sensor. Now my mechanic isn't sure whether the MAP is really at fault or its because the code reader is for diesels 2004+. He also said he would expect a faulty MAP to throw up a fault light. So whats the most likely, could the MAP be knacked or the code reader giving a phantom fault reading?

Thanks

tricky! True, a FAULTY map would throw a code, but not necessarily a blocked or dirty one that is still functioning. Did you change your MAP, or just clean it? I think they are quite cheap, might be worth getting a new one? I might have a spare one - I changed mine regardless when I bought the car, so my spare is my old one but its clean. You can borrow if you like, but then again if you came to collect it I may as well hook up my computer and ELM as I have the software. Up to you buddy, but in answer to your question I don't know for sure - faulty map would throw a code, dirty map would not (you just get degraded performance but probably within tolerances-depends on state of map)

Hello mate

I just cleaned it with electrical spray but i don't know if i have damaged it. I sprayed directly into the MAP and used quite a lot! Thanks for the offer of help Clivvy. I'll go local for my diagnostics but if it is the MAP i may be in touch and see if i can try yours as a test :)

KKL (K-Line) can have latency issues at higher baud rates and isnt compatible with canbus systems.

ELM can handle canbus and doesnt have latency issues. Also it will do service resets on the stilo

I have both and a set of Gendan patch cables. Gendan do a full package of 3x patch, ELM and KKL interfaces for a fair price which wasnt available when I bought mine but fully covers MES Functionality

MES website has a list of compatable interfaces with ecus. Take a look there!
