Hi, got an 02 Stilo 1.9 JTD 8v last week and have been ironing out its little niggles, air bag light, ASR/ESP warning and a nice knocking all gone, cruise control fitted, its now time to work on the AC!

It makes a lot of noise but there's no air flow coming out of any of the vents, my initial thoughts are the fan isn't spinning but the motor is but it does sound like air is being moved when you turn the fan on with the engine off and listen from outside the car.
I tried the self-learning procedure but that hasn't helped the problem (if 01 means the last attempt failed? then it keeps failing the self learning).
Does anyone have any ideas where to look, or know if there's a post that covers this that i've missed?

Also where can i find a exploded diagram or similar of where all the components are for the air system and how it all goes together, doesn't need to be all pictured up like a haynes manual, a regular exploded will be fine, as long as it shows me where things are roughly, i'd rather not go tearing my car to bits 'blind'.

Thanks in advance for the help

Alex

ok, is the air con actually working? You can see the clutch spinning on the compressor if it is working, can you confirm this? Also, check your cabin filter because if this is blocked then air flow will be very restricted.(y)

Tbh I think it's an incorrect title, should read ventilation / climate control issue, AC working or not is a minor issue ATM as sound like OP hasn't any ventilation working?

Ok, will have a look tomorrow.

As a side how can you trek if the compressor clutch is engaging?

Thanks

agreed with above - forget the A/C for now (although all you do is open the bonnet and look to see if the A/C clutch is spinning-the compressor is drivers side where the belts are, at the front, youll see it sticks out a bit, if its not spinning then the compressor clutch isn't engaging)

anyway, get the cabin filter checked - do you know where it is? Get your head down by the clutch pedal - there is a black plastic cover that runs over the pedals, remove that, then remove the black cover that slots over the filter. there might be some nuts holding it in, otherwise just release the clips. Slide out the filter, then check for air flow out the vents again.

Right found the filter and took it out, nice and black, and the air flow is now tip top! Now onto the next issue, hot air!
It only blows out hot air no matter what setting its in and regardless of the compressor been on or not.
It's also consistently failing its self-learning procedure. Is there a way to find out why? Is it a case of getting a diagnostic on the car?
With regards to the compressor, I can see it and the fan belt is spinning the wheel but I can't tell if it's engaging the clutch or not. I'm looking from the top of the engine, do I need to take a look from under? I've got a video of what I could see that I'll upload so you can see what I'm looking at.

Any ideas on where to go from here? Could it be a flap/flaps stuck?

Thanks again

Right, finds the flaps time, anyone have any experience with this, are they easy or a pain in the behind to get to? I'll get onto e learn tonight but any advice from hands on will always be useful.

Thanks

nice work so far!!

yeah does sound like the flap is stuck or broken. I never did the job myself sorry but I hope you get it sorted especially in this warm weather(y)

Well after a lot of swearing at the glove box which was glued to the sound proofing behind it making it nice and easy to pull out I got to the flap actuators and found that 2 of them had broken 'pins' (the bits that connect the actuator to the flaps). I've had a look on eper but can't find a part number for them, does anyone know what the part number is?

Thanks

I do, White bits are the pins I'm on about

How easy is this to locate / do? I have exactly the same issue as the OP and wouldn't mind sorting it myself, if possible. Am i likely to need any special tools?

nope, no special tools but space is tight due to the clutch pedal.

All you do, is remove the plastic panel that runs above the pedals. This then lets you remove the plastic cover that runs along the centre console (gear stick and handbrake) - just a couple of screws/clips holding that on. Then you will see at the back, a black plastic "box". the filter is inside that, but there is a long plastic cover over the end-to remove that you unscrew one or two screws (if they are present) and pull some retaining clips back - this lets you slide the end cover off.

Once off, you can see the filter, pull it out taking care not to rip it - not as you do so, the clutch is in the way-imagine getting your new filter in, its tight and needs a bit of modification by cutting the top and bottom flap on the filter to allow the filter to bend a little-you will see as you remove the old one.

Once the old filter is out, clean out the housing with a vac or something, then make sure air flow is ok, and fit a nice new filter-take care to fit it the correct way note the airflow arrows on the filter.

good luck buddy!

It's quite easy to get to, there was a wire in the way that made it a pain to get out for me, not tried putting a new one in yet so can't comment on that. I can post a pic of where it is if you need it

If you could, that would be great.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I've managed to get the pollen filter out and there's actually air coming out the vents for the first time in the four years we've owned the car!

Couple of questions:
Where do I get a new filter?
Can I run the aircon without the filter in place for a couple of days?
