I am using a 1.6 stilo which i bought 4 days ago with 48000 miles on the clock. It ran really well and really smooth in motorways without any problem until now i can see the engine fault sign on the dashboard. When the car is on idle the rev goes down like it is going to die and up in a sudden way. Last night, while driving engine fault showed up and the car was flowing with the clutch pedal off but had no effect while applying accelerator. I stopped, restarted the car and everything went smooth again.
Please advice me on this as it is my first car and with this problem showing up after a few days of buying the car is driving me nuts.

Sounds like a problem either with the throttle body or the wiring/ connection to it, I've read of problems occurring with the 5v supply to the throttle body which it shares with something else in the engine bay, I'll try dig out the thread for you.
