Hi guys newbie here.have just got my hands on a 1.6 stilo in d last few days.had to change d steering motor which i did with a 2nd hand part which works fine but having the same probs described above with the car cutting out all of a sudden with ASR Failure / Alternator Failure loose connection popping up on d dash.car starts again straight away with no probs.ive only read a handfull of posts on this subject so excuse my ignorance if its already been answered but is d only solution for this to get d ECU remapped ? I read about the brske switch causing trouble & i did notice that out of position while replacing the steering motor but i fairly sure its secure & working ok.any advice would be great.cheers

So can any1 give me a definitive answer as to fixing the ASR Failure / Alternator Failure... problem before i finally give up on it altogether & send it to the scrapper ? I've tried most things i've read as to fixing it on here from earthing the ECU,replacing the brake switch, replacing the battery, cleaning the corrosion from inside the fuse board etc. & still no joy.if replacing the ECU was a fix for sure i'd do it in a heartbeat as i do want to keep the car on the road but i don't see any posts that say doing this is a definite fix.(maybe i just haven't come across any) If anybody can give me some words of wisdom apart from the words im getting from mates to burn it i'd be very very very greatful.:banghead:

There's plenty of information on the forum about this just search forum more detail you give the better the answered will be.

does it have its battery cover if not check in guides section for repair fuse board/D4 Connector and list all error codes if any.(y)

Last chance saloon !

Hi guys.hoping someone can help me out here as I'm out of ideas and patience.have a 1.6 Stilo with what seems to be common electrical faults.ASR / ALTERNATOR FAILURE, LOOSE CONNECTION pops up on the dash and the car cuts out.I've tried most things I've read on the forum but nothing seems to work & its getting to the stage where if I can't get it sorted very soon its away to the scrapper which would be a shame coz in between cutting out it drives very well & is in very good condition.can anybody give me a definite answer as to how to fix this ??? I don't mind spending a few quid on the car if it fixes the problem but nobody can give me a proper diagnosis. I spoke with a fiat "specialist" who told me to change the crank sensor which I had already done & run a new earth to the battery which I also done along with earthing the ECU, replacing the brake switch, tightening the wires to the alternator & changing the fuse board in the engine bay.will replacing the ECU solve my problem or has ANYBODY sorted these problems out any other way ??? Any advice would be really appreciated. Sorry if this post isn't in the correct category but im hoping someone will see it & can help me out.thanks in advance.:confused::confused:

Re: Last chance saloon !

happyhands Please do not post multiple threads for the same problem. I have moved all of your duplicate threads together here.

Also, 3 people responded to your previous thread 4 weeks ago and you didn't bother to respond to them. You are unlikely to get much help if you ignore the suggestions people make to you.

Well to be honest i checked for any replys at least 4 r 5 times & didnt find any thats why i posted the same kind of post more than once.if they where moved from where i posted them how am i to know where the reply is if nobody let me know ? I apologised in advance in my last post & apologise again if people thought i was ignoring them as thats not the case.as i said any advice would be much appreciated so im not on here to **** anyone off.

In reply to the above posts sorry i haven't posted back earlier. as i told Davren i didn't see any reply's when i checked (& i did check) so apologies. Ive put a code reader on it & its not giving me any faults thats why im in limbo.it drives perfect for maybe 30/40 mins then the problem kicks in.the car will start back up 80% of the time straight away & drives again for a while but always cuts out again. There was no battery cover on it when i got the car but as i said ive replaced the fuse board with the one from a car i know wasn't giving any trouble.i haven't gone to get the ECU tested yet as i was kind of hoping it was something else but again as i say if replacing the ECU sorts it out then ive no problem getting it done.im just trying to eliminate everything else before i i do that.so just to re cap i put in a new battery , put a new earth to both the battery & ECU,put in a new crank angle sensor, tightened up both cables going to the alternator, checked the brake switch, checked all fuses, cleaned all connections going to the fuse board & ECU,replaced the fuse board on the engine bay & got a battery cover & tightened up any earth straps i can find & still no joy. Anything else i should be checking ?

I only moved the 3 threads together 25 minutes ago when I saw your third thread.

Post 2 above was your second thread 4 weeks ago, posts 3, 4 and 5 are replies to it, that were also posted 4 weeks ago, that you ignored.

It would be helpful if you answered posts 3, 4 and 5 before going any further.

Hold your horses there pal.first of all i didnt ignore any posts,as i said i didnt see them as i was obviously looking in the wrong place for them.second ive apologised twice already for not replying & third i think you might want to take a leaf out of your own book as i sent you a message the 14th of July asking for your advice on the same issue as i couldn't find any reply's to my previous posts & as it stands i haven't had a reply from you so it seems ignoring posts isn't exclusive to me.

Sorry for the late text mate.honestly didnt know i had any replies to the post.i have no faults coming up on my reader so thats kind of what has me snookered.there was no battery cover on it when i got it & i heard that causes problems.ive tried a lot of the things people have suggested on other posts but still no joy.ive checked all the fuses, checked the brake switch,re earthed the battery & ecu,new battery, tightened both cables to the alternator, cleaned all cables to the fuse board in the engine bay.i was also told to change that fuse board which i did.also put a new crank angle sensor in & still no joy.ive no problem getting a new ecu if that fixes the problem but wanted to eliminate everything else first in case it was something simple.any advice would be great.again sorry for the late reply.

Haven't had it checked yet as i was hoping to eliminate anything else that might be causing the problem but up to now thats not been much good so getting it checked is next.very sorry for the late reply as you can probably see from my last few posts i couldn't find any replies to my original post so posted again hoping someone might get in touch.thanks again.

Thanks for the advice & sorry for the late reply.i genuinely didnt know i had any replies so in turn didnt know i had anything to reply to.ive changed the fuse board in the engine bay already & cleaned all connections going to it & the battery but still no joy.if you can think of anything else dont hesitate to let me know.thanks again.

ive had this recently... check your relays that sit on top of your battery.

my dodgy one is 'T02' if you take each relay out in turn it is stamped on the plastic casing that they sit in.

it can go for days or weeks without cutting out then suddenly it will do it 4 times in a day, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to when it cuts out either... hot, cold, wet, dry, long drives, short drives, fast engine speeds, slow engine speeds. it just does it when it feels like it!

my last episode was 2 weeks ago i couldn't get it restarted so i checked the relays and few of them had started to push out of the fuse board as if some one had only half put them back in so i pushed them all down and *touch wood* its fixed for now.

Theres no point getting ECU tested if you have done all basic checks and it still randomly cuts out asr/loose connection you could try relocating ECU to side of battery box this will help with heat issues I replaced my ECU with new one as could not source reconditioned unit that would work nor could I get anyone to test this unit properly since replacing I have had no problems with ASR/loose connection its been fine 12months+ and all it good now.

Thanks bri.i moved the ECU sun morning & to be honest after driving it that evening i thought that was everything sorted coz it drove perfect for over an hour when usually i only got maybe 30 mins before.i drove it again for another hour & again no problems but soon as the missus sat into it last night it start acting up so i reckon its her fault.ha ha.i think the damage is already done but theres a place here in Dublin so im going to give him a ring & see what he says.they remap & recondition units so going to get a price & go from there.i'll post the results.cheers.
P.S. is this fault only common in the 1.6 ? My son has a 1.2 & hasn't had a days trouble (touch wood) since he got it over a year ago.

Richy have you bought one from that place ? If so how much did it cost if you dont mind me asking ? Their going on ebay for around £385 new so anything below that would be a bonus
