Hi all. Newbie (or noobie, as u wish!) Here and what a great site this is!

I bought myself a 04 plate Stilo Active Aircon on Thursday. A lovely motor. While driving home with it, someone hit me up the chuff and smashed the o/s lens. You couldn't make it up. After a trip to the scrap yard I picked one up for £15.(taken of an 03 plate) Took it home , easy swap over and all working. Got back in the car and got rear stop,fog,light and indicator fault on the dash.

Hhmmm. So I came on here, read the posts and tried the following

1.cleaned connectors
2. Switched the bulbs over (they were in tact and working) except the indicator, had a different pin setup on the board
3. Checked earth, looks OK
4. Slammed the boot shut (as I read on one post)

So now I thought I'd ask. Only thing I haven't done is buy new bulbs, as there all working but I've read a wrong bulb can set it off??

Any ideas?

Not sure, but was 03/04 the change to CanBus? This might explain the different indicator bulb. It would appear that the CanBus on your car does not recognise the new lamp unit. Whilst the plug fits, are there any wires on the car that do not have a match in the "old" light unit? Is it possible to swap the bulb holders, so you use the original. That car will never know that you have a different lens outside.
You may have to scour the scrappies for a later light unit. Surely, the guy who hit you should be buying you a new lamp.

All Stilos are canbus,

However 2003 is preface lift, and 2004 will be face lift, so different rear lenses. OP you need to get a lense from a 2004> model.

I'm assuming it's a 5door Stilo

Although all Stilos are CAN-bus controlled (as Most Easterly Pandas pointed out), there was a change to the arrangement of the bulbs at the same time as the lens was changed (five-door models only). Therefore, the unit you have might not be compatible with your car's bulb check system. What bad luck...

For the record, I've also discovered that faults in multiple bulbs can generate fault messages for other bulbs that are working fine. E.g. a car with two dead sidelight bulbs (one each side) produces a 'Number Plate Bulb Failure' message, even though the number plate bulbs are working fine. You just have to work methodically and check all bulbs for correct wattage and function.
