Hello guys, help or advice needed regarding our Stilo's Air conditioning unit.
Basically a few days ago the manual air conditioning unit worked perfectly fine as it had been working since we owned the car and we did use it a lot ( I mean the car and it's air conditioning as well ).
Today when I wanted to turn on the air conditioning since it got really warm, the compressor clutch did not engage, I did not hear the distinct "click" any more...nor was there any cool air coming from the went. There was the usual tick over after pressing the Snow Flake button on the dash, small click but very faint one could be heard which I think is some small relay but the air con clutch did not engage hence not blowing nice cool air any more.

I have to say the last few months with our Stilo turned out to be unpleasant ones. Fixes here and there on the suspension all summing up to a nice amount of money and now this.

I read around the web and on the forum and I will try to see whether any of the relays could be causing this, since I already did a check with the fuses and all are OK.
It's either a relay of the aircon or the aircon it self... boy I hope it's not going to be a change of the compressor :tosser:

Will keep you guys posted what I find out soon since I need to take the care for a suspension fix any way tomorrow or the day after... keep fingers crossed!

Cheers...

P.S. Gonna open a dark beer now cause I need it :D

Have check relay T05 by battery relay can click and still be having worn contact inside the relay if that relay and fuse ok could be loss or high pressure of air con gas as that will stop air con coming on. Chin up all cars have stages of bits to fix

Thanks for the cheering up, appreciate it :)
I'm going to take the car to my mechanic on Wednesday any way for some front suspension fix so I'll check into the aircon relays once there and we can of course measure the gas pressure as well. I will post here what I find definitely.

Thou I was told by my mechanic friend that I should just use my ELM327 USB (the cheap "toy" kind) interface to see what is the pressure reading through the Aircon module but of all the modules that's the only one my elm interface wont connect to. I have the modified interface so I can connect to Engine, Airbag, Power Steering, Body Node...everything ... and I can connect to them successfully but the only one that gives an error at connection time is the Aircon module. It say ELM327 interface > ECU connection error. I should check my cables or port settings. All other interfaces I see and read and modify...but this one ...bummer.
My mechanic says it's because of the "el cheap'o" ELM interface so He'll have a go at it with his professional one on Wednesday.

Updates soon :)

Also Fuse for Air Con Compressor is F19 in Fuse board next to Battery..

Do you have climate control with the small digital panel display or just climate air con dials..as I have also a cheap elm327 that I modified and it connects to my climate control using Multiscan software and all other connections fine maybe if you do not have climate control it is not supported to connect ..just a thought..

UPDATES:
I checked the fuses and all are FINE.
I have the manual Aircon, the one with just the dials. No digital display, only an AC On/Off button and temp gauge.

Further UPDATES:
;) The AC all of a sudden started to work again. Image my surprise when my wife turned it on today out of curiosity and it's now working again.
So the diagnosis so far is that on Sunday it failed to start. The electromagnetic clutch was not kicking in.

On Wednesday, after several tries, all of a sudden starts to work again and with the same good quality as before... This is strange behavior. I will definitely take it to a proper specialist who deals with AC car systems. Maybe the refrigerant is on the threshold of being low, or it could be one of the mentioned relays failing to do it's job or it could even be a semi faulty coolant compressor.

I will keep this updated as new info arises. Thanks so far for the recommendations.

I took the car to an aircon shop to have it checked out.

Turns out the electromagnetic clutch's lead wires were broken or braking... The guys peeled off the masking tape of some sort from the wires and it looks like someone way long ago did some very bad and short term fix...the wires corroded and there wasn't a good connection in the plug leading to the electromagnetic clutch. From time to time it worked, or not... probably due to engine judder.

The AC pump has been taken off at the shop so they can repair it and I'm soon to have it picked up. They also said it was almost empty on oil, thou the cooling gas pressure was OK, so no apparent leak, they are going to top it up as well. It's going to be around 40 euros for the fix ... which I hope will be permanent.

Cheers mates!

Aircon FIXED :) one mostly happy Stilo owner again ! The reason for the intermittent ac working or not was definitely caused by broken wires and a badly done patch job years ago. Sadly for this the mechanic had to take off the aircon to properly get to the pumps electromagnetic clutch but once off it was a quick fix.
Back it went, then a top up of refrigerant and oil was done and it works nicely now...just as it was before the intermittent stopping's.

Have a peaceful night!
