Hi there I have a Stilo 115JTD 5 door with afull compliment fo airbags... and it has just come up with a airbag fault. So following the advice here I looked under the seat to attempt a wiggle fo the plugs and ,,well , I cant find the OCS wire from the seat. I see the grey plug that it should connect to under the seat , but nothing is connected to it. Now I know that some people just pull out the seat pad sensor and live with the beeps , but in this case , there has been no errors since I bought this car a couple of months ago untill yesterday,. How can a OCS sensor not be fitted (and I believe all of these models should have it) and give no warning errors for so long. If there is a way to fool the computer and suppress the fault I would love to hear about it as I am up for a inspection next week and I have no time to sort it out untill afterwards. Thanks to all...

I am not so sure that all stilo's had the ocs fitted to passenger seat a small thread below that may help..
https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/308076-passenger-ocs-missing.html

Also if yours does not have one then for it to suddenly show an airbag fault would lead to another airbag at fault and would require a diagnostic check using multiscan or fiat software to check which airbag is giving fault as there are numerous connectors i.e behind glove box and rear boot compartment could even be seat belt tensionsers but getting codes read would be beneficial

Thanks for that thread info. I hadn't found that one in my searches. According to richydraper OCS fitted seats have a tab with OCS near the recline wheel. Mine doesn't have that. So ,,, I must asume that mine never had OCS in the passenger seat. I am wanting to order a diagnostic cable (what are the recomendations ?) and with it I am sure that I could find the faults , but I just dont have the time left before my inspection date. It looks like I am going to have to sell my second kidney now.

good the thread was usefull

If your thinking of using the multiscan software you would need a vag com cable to connect to airbags as the elm327 interface is not suitable for airbag on the stilo..I use an vag com cable with no modifications and use registerd version of multiscan software..am not sure if you would need to pay for registerd version of multiscan software to read the airbag code errors,

Only early Stilos had the OCS, but we've never established the date it was abandoned by Fiat.

My January 2003 Stilo doesn't have the tag (no evidence of it having been cut out), but does have an OCS.

I see on http://www.idiagnostics.co.uk that they have for the Stilo 115JTDa package of scan tools--

''3 coloured adaptors + KKL + ELM + 3-pin''

Do you think this will work on my 2003 model..I guess it was made early in the year.?

In the list it says - KKL VAG COM.

I don't mind buying the software , I'me not a tight wad if it will do what I need it to do.

As far as I could find out anything after (and including) 52 plates didnt have OCS. IF you had OCS you were just 'lucky'

You only need the ELM and KKL plus the 3 patch cables for full functionality of MES for the stilos the 3 pin was for pre OBD2 cars like the Coupes, Cinqs, Seis, Bravas, early Bravos, early Puntos, etc.

MES is worth every penny of the 50EUR for any indepth work but the free version will read airbag ECUs with the blue vagcom and red patch leads.

Theres these http://m.gendan.co.uk/product_FESCBL.html and you can get the vagcom cables off ebay very cheaply

The vagcom cable will do all diag work available in the free version of MES so as a starter id suggest keep it cheap and pay more when you need it

The MES site has a list of the cables required for certain functions herehttp://www.multiecuscan.net/SupportedVehiclesList.aspx the itens marked in red require a full version of MES

Thanks draper (and of course all others).

In one last ditch , blind man attempt to sort this before going to (ugg) FIAT I am cleaning the plugs under the front seats , in the glove box and over the rear wheel arch , and two under the back seat if they are there......From what I have read here I think that is mostly the trouble makers.

If that isn't successful I will start to expect that it is actually a component failure.

I wonder too , -- the eLearn ?
Surely that isn't a genuine FIAT service document.
Not only is it a horrible program to use , but it lacks so much of what I expected to see.
I did manage to download a service manual in Russian ,, and it looks quite comprehensive...sadly though , my Russian is a little rusty. (aka - non existent)

Are there any GOOD service manuals available for the Stilo. ?

I just looked in the glove compartment to clean the connector there and saw the sticker for the replacement of the gas generator in the 5th month of 2013...oh bugga !

Yeah - absolutely no-one takes any real notice of those stickers, and airbags have been known to fire after more than 20 years...

I'd be happy to replace "gas generators" if they were actually available as service parts... as far as I know, the only way you can get them is part of whole airbag assemblies?

Google search for "airbag gas generator replacement": https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=a...ment&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari

I like the way the results mention Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, and... FIAT Stilo. :) I also notice that I've commented in the thread that is the very first search result

However, my thoughts on this are best summed-up by this post from Steve148:

Ditto.
I am fine with doing the work myself , in fact I prefer it that way.

The standards of work where I live now is not that high and as soon as anything is modified a dealer becomes less help than Forrest Gump high on crack.

I have a tragic story about how I was unable to buy a radiator cap for my Suzuki Swift from the Suzuki dealer here.

Here they assign a correct parts list based on your rego plate.
If you change a part from a different year (in my case the radiator) , even though it works fine , , they cannot find associated parts for it.
They just come up with the same answer , 'this is what is for your car' , and I said , 'No its not its a newer model Swift radiator , one with a modern style small cap.'

They then got the parts manager out I explained it all to him and he still couldn't understand.

In the end I said , ''Hey , you see that Suzuki Liana over there , give me a radiator cap for that.''
They said , ''But your car isn't a Liana....'' --UGG

I said ''Forget about my car and all that I have said so far , I now just want a radiator cap for a Liana.''

Really confused they now started to pluck numbers out of their rear.

''Umm , that's 80 Euros.''

''80 Euros'' --I replied ,--'' that is a 5 Euro part !!''

I gave up after that and went home and got one on eBay for $4.

So I have a fairly low expectations for help from dealerships., especially as my Stilo has had ,, some significant changes. :)

A couple of weeks ago I tried to get a custom bent exhaust system made for it , but as expected , that ended a huge shamozzle.

In the end I did it myself at home.

Just an update.

This airbag light problem is now solved.
I don't know which one exactly it was because all 3 were done at the same time , but a clean of the dash OR LR rear plug OR the RH rear plug , was enough to turn the warning off.

Of course I expect to come back again , but at least I will get through my inspection date now.

In the future I guess I will replace the plugs and sockets and fix it for good.
