General Stilo Schumacher, should I???

Yeah I've been looking through eBay I can get a new conti for £130, and to be honest I'm not a huge fan of them, too soft and prone to sidewall damage, but for the sake of 1 I might as well have a matching set! £153 each  blimey bet that made the eyes water lol.

Whilst I'm here I have yet another question for you lol. What your engine temperature sit at on a normal drive?? Mine takes forced to warm up and it hovers around a 1/4 and sometimes the next line under half on a drive, and bang on half in traffic, certainly no overheating problems, fans all work etc, it just seems to run cold, on the run to my gf's about 8 miles it only starts to warm up about half way, is it just the way they are or???? Cheers guys

........ blimey bet that made the eyes water lol.

Certainly did bud! And two weeks later I folked out £320 for a new drive shaft..... It was an expensive month lol

As for the temp gauge I'ld say that sounds about right. I only do 4 miles to my work and it barely gets warm (about 1/4 up the gauge) in traffic goes all the way up to half way ........ But here's the werid bit - I've never seen or heard my fan ever work? the fan wire has melted on the manifold and I think it's shorted something out but it never over heats?? Yet another stilo oddity :D

Hey, sorry for the delay I've been so busy, gald to hear mines running in line with others, and yeah the rad fan is silent!

Gadge that was a bad month!! Not had any more I hope, I'm gonna run the conti till its right on the limit then ill hunt a replacement :)

That will need a new thermostat. Mine was like that, I took it off and found it stuck open. This is also very common on the design-related Alfa Twinspark engines.

Mine now warms up nice and fast (about 5km) and stays at the halfway mark under all conditions.

The gauge is electronically driven, so it will indicate half until there's a big deviation from standard operating temp.

Hi Alex, thanks for the info, I'm glad you've said that, I was driving home last night with the heater on and it didn't even get off the cold mark, how hard of a job is it? And where is it located? Ill get one ordered just hope it's not a pain in the arse lol

Replaced all 5 coil packs last night and a descent set of plugs and she's running like a beauty now :)

I think the 2.4 is similar to the 1.2 just a lot less space :p the thermostat should come with the gasket and housing. The thermostat is located on the gearbox side of the engine, under the air intake ducting. Remove the ducting and you should see it, drain the coolant and unbolt the thermostat. The gasket is made of paper I think so some may be left stuck to the cylinder head, just carefully scrape it off and make sure the face is clean. Fitting the new 'stat is the reverse of removal, suck an easy job on the 1.2 :D

I tell you what though, there not cheap! I ordered a water pump for this head I'm rebuilding and I inquired into how much a thermostat would cost (I was in MVC) and I was quoted £92  ....... Even the chap behind the desk was astounded! Lol

I've taken the intake off to get access to the thermostat as there was a choice of two from mpd, looks like a fairly ok job, I know from a mate the bottom bolt on the thermostat housing is a absolute bastard to get too, apparently a 13mm offset spammer does the job in minutes but I've heard of people making up sockets etc just to get it off and spending hours fighting with it!
Another thing, clips, stupid crappy impossible to remove fiat OEM clips!!! I had these on my GP t-jet I previously owned, so once I've broken them off ill be replacing with proper jubilee clips!

What's your opinions on the Paraflu coolant? as I'm draining it out its a bit old and I just want to replace it, bother getting the proper stuff or just long life coolant? I've seen a few people running green/yellow coolant so guess its not that important if I'm doing a complete change! And yes if I'm not mistaken the thermostat comes with a gasket included (should do for that price) I can't believe you can no longer just change a £4 thermostat, now it's a £60 lump of metal lol, cheers for the tips Mark

£92 :-O, bugger that's a bit steep, do you have a Schumacher Gadge? And what's MVC if you don't mind me asking lol?

I've picked up a thermostat for £62 looks like the right one so far, leave the fitting for the weekend!

MVC (midland vehicle centre) is like a car parts place, there usually pretty good on prices - the water pump I mentioned was only £32 and that's cheaper than any on the Internet. When I was there though there was two part numbers. The cheaper one (£60) had a different outlet on the side but a cross reference of the part number on the old one showed that my one was the dearer one...... Booooo (n) which is strange as I never knew there was two types fitted on the 2.4?

And yes I got a schumy :)

Ahh blimey yours was a bargain then, I've got two coming from mpd tomorrow, one was £35 all in, and one was £62, the cheaper one was from my reg, and the dearer one just said in the note (Abarth model) obviously fingers crossed its the cheaper one but the schumacher share the same engine as an Abarth so it's likely to be the more expensive one lol!! Ahh that's why MVC made no sence to me being a southerner lol
