Hi,

I am on holiday in Isle of Wight and its been raining heavily today, I was out with baby in back of car and passenger side wiper stopped working and driver`s side is working then just stops. Its been dangerous trying to drive as i`ve had to keep stopping to get out and jiggle it about whereupon it starts for a min or two then stops. Managed to get home in one piece!!

I will need to try and get this sorted asap as still have 4 more days of holiday left, is this something I can have a quick look at myself or is it going to be a trip to a garage for them to have a look at? I am a female and don`t know much about cars so any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated if it was in laymans terms rather than technical speak.

I have had a look through previous posts but can`t seem to find the same problem as mine :(

Thanks anyone that can offer me some advice........

Thanks Bri1232 I have just googled the Rainx and will go get some tomorrow and I will also google the wiper linkage thing you mentioned and see if can have a look under bonnet at the wiper mechanism.

Thanks so much for your help :)

My drivers side stopped working whilst driving in heavy rain on the motorway, wasn't impressed. Turned out to be a broken linkage to the wiper, I just bought another wiper motor with linkages off a breaking Stilo on eBay and fitted it in place of the old one, been fine two years and counting.

Easy to inspect/ replace: remove the two wipers by popping off the plugs and removing the nuts that hold them in place, then remove the scuttle panel at base of windscreen (bonnet up). Disconnect the wiring plug off wiper motor and remove motor and linkage by removing the two bolts holding it in place, refit is reverse of removal. I paid £20 posted for my motor/ linkage mechanism, simple and cheap fix.

Thanks so much everyone for your very informative and helpful replies, I will have a look at the wiper mechanism first thing tomorrow and report back. If it is the linkage thingy then at least I know where to go to order a new one without it costing me an arm and a leg. I may even have a go at fitting it myself as you do make it sound rather easy.

Thanks again everyone :)

Don't be surprised if you break the fixing 'buttons' removing the scuttle at the base of the windscreen to get access to the wiper mechanism. You can pick up the fixings for pence at your FIAT dealer...

Hi,

Had a go at removing wipers and scuttle but couldn`t manage it and did not want to do any damage so called AA man, he confirmed it was the linkage that had broken so he has done a quick fix so we can get home. Ive rebooked to come home tomorrow since weather here terrible, bad rain, hailstone and very very windy......not much of a holiday!
I`ve just ordered a new linkage kit from WIPEX so hoping that will be next few days so can get fitted.

Thanks for all your advice, this forum is excellent for sorting out problems without constantly having to go to see a mechanic and getting well and truly ripped off!!

Thanks again all (y)

Mine did this a couple of weeks ago. Wipers off, scuttle off, the linkage had dropped off. CLicked it back together firmly, and it's been fine since. I've left a spanner and screwdriver int the spare tyre well in case it does it again, and if it does I'll look at replacing the linkage, or there's a place online that does special clips for a fiver to clip over it.
