Hello! I took my Fiat Stilo 05 today for it's MOT, and it passed with an advisory which says "Drive shaft oil seals leaking and sump bung leaking". The man at the garage said it will be ok unless I notice big puddles on the floor.

I know nothing about cars so what does this mean? Should I get it fixed now and how much will it cost me? Thanks

if it an advisory it should only be a drip every now and then..as he says keep an eye on floor will give good indication on how severe the leak is..
The oil sump leak is a cheap fix of new copper washer and oil at oil change for a few pounds idealy should be replaced at each oil change..check your engine oil level regularly
Not sure on cost of driveshaft seal as more labour involved but remember that if you have a leak from your driveshaft then you will also be loosing oil from your gearbox which could become very costly should your gearbox fail due to lack of oil and certainly worth getting done and new gearbox oil to correct level at same time..best bet is give it a good clean where the leak is and keeping checking which will give you idea of extent of oil leak

Thanks. I really wouldn't know where to start cleaning and trying to get an idea of the extent of the leak lol. I'm a woman who knows nothing about cars. I'll ask my neighbour to have a look for me, he's mechanically minded so hopefully might be able to do something about it. Just wondered about the price of any parts as he's usually working on cars for me for free, bless him

Driveshaft oil seals are about £6 each. Depending on what engine you have, the left one could be different to the right one.
