Hi Guys,
Bought a stilo 1.4 active A/C with 46k on the clock the other week and the fuel gauge is not working.
The low fuel light comes on when i have about 90 miles of juice left but the needle stays at the bottom.
Any ideas on a fix for this or a cheap repair ?

I don't think its a fuse as the gauge worked intermitantly a few times when i got it.
Any help greatly received.
Thanks

Would that entail dismantling the dash to check the connections ?
Or should I just use the "Tank to empty" as my new fuel gauge...

Is the range display still counting down the mileage? If so I'd just use that and the red light, trying to sort it is only going to cost £ and if you've other ways of knowing fuel quantity then I personally would leave it.

Thanks for the help, it's just that if I sell it I'd like to say everything is working.

On a side note, I 've put new plugs ,air filter, oil service etc, and the mpg is 37.
thats round town (driving like a girlie) and 41 on a motorway run. That's staying at about 70 mph.
Is that about right , or is something wrong ?
I was expecting about 48....49 mpg on a run.
Please don't say that i'm driving it wrong etc, as I'm a career long driver, ex military, and a driving instructor.

Sound right, no way you'll get high 40's, especially not at that speed. I only used to get about 33-34 around town in mine and high 30's on a run.

Following on Alex suggestion . If you eliminate the problem from the cluster...
I once had a loose baffle in a tank on a Strada (Ritmo). It took four trips under warranty until one of the Fiat guys (and it was Fiat England who sorted it) had the idea to take off the tank, empty it and give it a shake to hear the loose bit rattling about . The theory was the baffle fouled the float and meant it wouldn't signal properly. A new tank was fitted and the problem went away. Could this be a similar thing on your car? Im not certain of the tank arrangement on the Stilo but maybe someone with more knowledge could advise on this idea.
