Hello all.
New to the forum!!
Bought myself a fiat stilo yesterday 2002 1.9tdi.
I noticed on the way home that the multi function display in the centre of the dash is stuck on. its showing black squares where didgits should be and 00:00 's etc. but no actual information. could anyone shed any light on this for me as im new to fiats and dont have any manuals etc to explain any fix or anything.
Thanks.
Lee. :slayer:

Oh never :-\ not good. I'll def try disconnecting the battery for a bit. Hope it resets it or something. Pretty sure it was fine when I went to look at the car etc though. Any clue on price to buy/replace it if not?

Scrap yard will be your best bet. Get a set of clocks with lower mileage than your current mileage and it can then be increased to display what the car has done, but it can never be decreased ;)

Bump with picture of the problem I tried to describe guys... 1364337206408.jpg

Looks like it's in "Test the display mode" but that can usually only be done with diagnostic equipment (Examiner, FES, MES etc.)

Did anything change when you disconnected the battery for a while? May need to be disconnected for several hours to reset it.

I haven't unplugged the battery yet. I'm going to try it tomorrow. Will keep you updated though. Would a garage be able to take it out of that mode if nothing changes?

No... it would only go to display test mode for a few seconds while the diagnostic equipment activated the test. As soon as the test has finished, it would revert to normal mode.

@yellowstilo may have some suggestions if/when he sees this post.

my guess is a fault inside the cluster - as Davren said it looks like it's stuck in the display test mode (which normally is performed together with a gauge sweep and led lamp test ) - they tend to get faulty after XX years and the fault symptoms can vary depending on the location of the fault cause.
I think i will be able to repair your cluster but you would have to send it to NL .....
I also can reprogram another cluster with a lower mileage if needed , with the right equipment that's possible - with Examiner, FES/MES you can only adjust it upward.

Any guesses at how much it would be to get sorted officially?

About £150 from what I've seen. Could pic up a used replacement for about £30 though and dealer could match the mileage for £40-70 or if you want to invest in MultiECUscan.net software you could do it yourself, or even possibly find a local member with the software who could sort the mileage out for you for the cost of a beer possibly.

Any local (swansea'ish) based members willing to have a nose at this for me then? lol. feel cheeky to ask but also feel begrudged to spend money on it after only just buying the car :(

Yea I know it does but I'm still not happy about it lol. ****** to the bike! They are for the mamil (middle aged men in lycra .) lol

Dav iv tried disconnecting the bat but still the same. A guy in a garage recommended an ignition batt disconnect. Having ignition on / disconnect bat then leave for a bit. Ignition off and reconnect.? He said this resets most cars? Advisable to try?
