A couple of questions to those of you who have these Xcarlink things installed via the CD interchanger port.

1. Do they work with the Connect Nav+ head unit?

2. There's a couple of different types(I think), does anyone have this type installed?

CD interchanger is about to give up, can't be bothered to fix it and can't find another at the right price so a new glove box liner and an Xcarlink thingy it is.

I used an XCarlink in my 156. Good solution as I screwed the iPod to the dash (or more accurately, screwed a transparent hard case onto the redundant headlight adjuster control plate) and was able to select tracks from the iPod itself. Stereo cannot show track names but that won't matter if the iPod is visible.

iPhone Bluetooth works perfectly for phone calls, maybe less perfectly for music streaming (A2DP), but I would suggest you get the Bluetooth add-on for the XCarLink, as I regretted not having that.

Or you could spend about three times the price and get a Chinese stereo that communicates slowly and erratically with the iPod. It shows more of the track names at once and works well with playlists. I have some difficulty selecting artists and tracks, but I should try it with a slimmed-down list, as 1000+ artists takes about ten minutes to load the list. If I happen to touch the wrong artist name, it's back to A-ha again and another ten minutes to load the list. The iPod itself never has this problem, so direct control is a good idea. You'll still be able to use the steering wheel controls for track skip and volume (I can't).

If I used an XCarLink and an iPod with the Connect Nav+, I'd probably also use the TomTom software running on my iPhone as I have done in the past. But then I'd have to find something to do with my special Stilo stereo from China. Half price sale to someone on here maybe? Lol
