Hello,

I've recently had a minor surprise, if you can call it that. Somebody scratched the car with what I think could be another's car wheel? Anyway, apart from a slightly broken bumper (lucky the parking sensors are fine) I have some sort of sound coming from the exhaust or bumper. Can't tell whether to drive the car or not.

The rear bumper has a honeycomb design underneath to absorb shocks, one of the parts is loose and wobbling there.

I think something may have gone wrong with the exhaust too, because each time I accelerate hard or pull away I hear a clunk coming from my rear end. I initially thought it was a wheel but when I checked the exhaust, it seems it's a bit loose for some reason.

My question: how is the final exhaust fitted? I can only see 1 rubber ring bringing it closer to the body but is that all? Because it moves too much from side to side.

I've attached some pictures of what I think is the rubber ring holding the final exhaust in place. Could somebody please advise how it's installed and how many rings should there be, if something is broken, etc? I would very much appreciate it.

Thank you.

Vlad.

Looks as though your rear exhaust bracket has broken away from the body of the car. It's only held on with one bolt through the round hole. The hole has gone on yours.

This is the only picture I could find of one.

Thank you for your replies.

I knew I smelled something fishy. I see it selling for 10 pounds in the UK, most likely some 15 pounds in Romania. I will tell the guys to change that when they change my rear bumper as well.

Do you think it could have broken when the car got hit? Just so I know what to tell the insurance. :)

Also, why does the exhaust not have a pipe going in at one end and coming out the other? It has 2 pipes on the same side and none on the other side?

Again, thank you so much for your help. I'm going to stop using the car until I get this fixed.

Vlad.

You need to compile a list of things you want me to bring over in July.

The bracket looks a bit corroded anyway, but I suspect the accident was the final straw that broke it off.

That's just the way it's designed. Probably the 1.8 engine needed a longer pipe but there wasn't space for it under the car. The pipe goes in the front of the silencer, then bends back 180º and comes back out the same end.

Item #6 on the diagram below is the rear exhaust bracket.

Just bring your happy self. :) And maybe a fiatforum sticker.

I am going to claim insurance for repairs today. I don't think the exhaust bracket will be included, but it's cheap enough for me to replace at a local garage. :)

Jeez! That's some scratch.

Yeah, when it's made by someone who can't see where he's driving, yes. :p
