Hi -
I've got a distinct rapid flicker/pulse in my headlights and dash when engine is running. Battery is fully charged, only a few months old. I'm going to check that all the earths and battery connections are clean & tight, but otherwise it's likely that the diode pack has partially failed in the alternator.

From what I read, this is either an open-circuit failure (meaning a 50% reduction in charging output, but it will still work) or a close-circuit failure which means it's completely donald-ducked. I'll try and work that out, but in the end I may need to replace the alternator. I've seen Muppet's thread, and it will be a last resort.... I do a long daily commute, so there's time for it to maintain battery reserves even at 50% output.

Anyhow, let's get to the question - EPER says I need part 46782213 (105A) or 46809068 (120A). When I google for suppliers, I find that there's a long list of other allegedly compatible units (46765838, 46774430, 46782212, 46782213, 46809068, 63321497, 63321501, 63321804, 63321805, 63321819,
63321826). www.woodauto.com/Unit.aspx?Man=FIAT/MARELLI&Ref=46782213 for example.

Do I need the exact model number - does the body computer have to recognise it, or can I use any of the interchangeable variants above?

Just my opinion, but I think a good option is to take the alternator off and take it to an auto electrician for reconditioning? Generally the rectifier/diode packs are common to many versions of alternators, and it can be replaced/have new brushes and bearings fitted for considerably less than the price of a new alternator - and with those new parts, it will be good-as-new again. :)

Thanks Alex - unfortunately this is my only vehicle at present, so I'll have to replace it on the same day.
