Hi, Stilo 1.6 2004, key fob stopped working c/l remotely. (Battery was replaced although the old one had 3.1 volts)

I dismantled key fob; there is a 4 digit number on the pcb. Could this be the code required re-program the key?

I took apart a spare I bought on ebay, it has different 4 digit number on it.

Does anyone know for sure these are the codes required for re-programming purposes?


I have tried most of the so called quick fixes on the web.

as above you need the electronic 5 digit code only available from fiat to re-set remotes or to add second hand/new remote can be done if you get registerd version of the multiscan software and cable and also can be done by fiat but either way you will need to pay to get the electronic code needed from fiat

Thanks. Are you sure the central locking code is 5 digits. I was under impression it is 4 for the doors and a 5 digit code for the alarm/immobiliser, but I may well be wrong.

you will always need a precoded trasponder - you will never be able to program a remote key from another Stilo because that transponder contains another secret code which does not belong to your car.
You might switch the transponder from your old to the new remote, in that case it should work after relearning the key because this code is already stored in the bodycomputer.
the pin code to unlock the body computer is always 5 digits.

Thanks, thought it was too good to be true.

Does Fiat have a standard price? It may not work;could be the key is kaput,in that case would be more expense to get a new key etc.

I don't see why a key should forget its code for no apparent reason.

I wasn't trying to reprogram a key from another car. I only wanted spare fob to get a new key blade cut for a spare.
Maybe that has confused the issue.

is what I did got spare remote and blade cut for it so in emergency can use emergency start procedure if loose working transponder key..used multiscan software and did myself like others on here..5 digit code from fiat is a must, and you not know until you try emergency start procedure if your car is able as part of the computer system on car.
code cost £35 plus vat varies between dealers..but at end of day have spare key to start car if anything happens to my only origenal key, and can be done by fiat or yourself using multiscan registerd version with correct elm cable.

I'm not aware of multiscan & cable so would need to read up on that if I were to DIY it. Anyhoo, the code is first priority.

If it helps I called Fiat Italia on st marys way in Stockport . They charge £42.05 to retrieve the code although if you want them to program it for you they put £60.00 on top of that.
