Hello

When the weather is cold and i'm stood in traffic, the car will sometimes shudder. I've noticed though before it does, there is a 'click' which sounds like its coming from the fuse box area near steering wheel column. Also the revs sometimes increase but not much, its stays under 1k rpm.

Is this normal and something i can leave or is it a problem? It did this with the last engine and with this one. The car is a jtd.

Thanks

Phil

hmm...dunno, have you got air con? probably not that. i am trying to think what relays come on and off when cold, can only tink of glow plug relay.

The shuddering, does it go if you press the accelerator to rev it up a bit?? if so, could be struggling to warm up...

No air con. I've not tried reving it whilst it does it, i'll give it a go. You say it could be struggling to warm up, well the temp guage does get to the halfway mark and it doesn't take too long. Is that right?

hmm...not too long, less than 10 mins? what sort of driving? could be dodgy engine mounts, does the shuddering go away when warm>?

I would say about 15 minutes of town driving. It doesn't do it when warmed up or warm weather.Interesting you mentioned about engine mounts, i think thats linked to my interior rattle.....buts thats another issue i'm trying to fix!

could it be the fan kicking in and draining quite a lot of power causing the revs to drop.

Sounds plausable however my revs increase then drop. The car idles around 750ish then when this happens it goes up but only to about 900. It doesn't bother me too much i wouldn't mind knowing what it is!

As its done it with my old engine and now this one i'm guessing its something other than engine. Fan kicking in is a possibility.

its all guess work. Alternator be one, glow plugs/relay (pre heat still running on cold engine), battery....

what judders...the whole car, or just the interior trim? I still suspect the engine mount if you say you have an existing issue...the fornt one in particular caught my eye, its pretty big and rubbery, so if thats worn or broken or out of line, it will judder till warm because there isnt anything to dampen the vibration of the cold engine.

The judder can be felt from the steering wheel. It hasn't done it much today and it doesn't happen when engine is warmed up. Ah well, it could be the engine mount. I'll get that looked at when i've had the other 101 jobs sorted :) Thanks for the help.
