Greetings ....
A weird rattling/screeching sound emanating from the front end of my Stilo JTD multi-wagon suggested that something was rather ... er, amiss ....
Two possible causes sprang to mind ....
Bearings shot on the alternator .... or, bearings shot on the air con pump.
So, I got my friendly local mechanic to remove the belt that drives the ancilleries .... and the noise stopped.
A new, shorter drive belt was then fitted - bypassing the aircon pump ... negating the need to replace the aircon pump and re-gassing the thing at a cost of £££££££££'s
Total cost .... thirty quid (including the belt).
