Today I had windscreen replaced by a mate who works for one of the windscreen companies, The issue I have is he lost his wedding ring down the vent. any ideas on getting it back other than fully removing dash, Have already removed the vent on dash but can not feel a ring only the ducting going back to unit

Perhaps with driving it may make it fall lower down the air ducts towards the fan area it would have to pass the flaps that control airflow, and being gold no use dropping magnet down unless wife was cheap and got fake one ...guess you have his wife calling round to find out where he was today....if after driving it drop down ducting which is just an off chance you could then take fan out and hunt for it round that area which is located behind panel down by clutch pedal..if you could get diagram of the air ducting for windscreen you could have an idea where it could be or if there is chance of it falling lower down the ducting.....

Could this be why the price of second hand Stilo.s are rising ..there is gold in them there cars

the ring is tungsten carbide. from what heard earlier whilst driving was it dropping further down. but regarding fan area having had this out along with pollen filter. The heater matrix is blocking access to bottom area. only hope is the footwell vents or to put a in of unit n seal backup once out

shame it was a mate that was doing the screen for you else be different matter , perhaps someone will post diagram of ducting layout for you, only other thing that comes to mind if it has dropped down to a place close to footwell vent or other access point down that way could try straight bit of metal coat hanger or something similar with blob of bluetac on the end and try fish it out but at same time you not want to make things worse than are,,did think on what lies behind the stereo if any access points there but been while since had my stereo out.

Does anybody have plans of the ventilation/ heater unit ducting layout, or know where i can get them from?

Have you tried turning the car upside down and shaking it?

thanks for pic mark but need to trace the ducting for the main unit itself.

MT how do you not know this you've had your dash out...

i can only find the long trim that sits by the windscreen and an air distribution block that sits on top of the heater assembly that MT has already posted.

the ducting is proving rather elusive!

There is no "exploded" view of the heater matrix showing the inside of it but you can dismantle it if you remove it from the car which - as Richy says - I have done, and trust me you don't really want to do that 'till it's your last resort.

If you remove the dashboard it has ducting within it that goes to the drivers and passenger side vents at the doors, and also the center vents where the hazard switch is, but these come off the top of the heater matrix so it's unlikely it's wound up in the dashboard itself. I reckon it's fallen down into the heater matrix and lurking somewhere at the bottom of it. I really think you will have to remove it and take it apart to get to it...

i doubt its gone any further south than the matrix 'radiator'
