Hi all I have a Stilo 1.9 jtd on a 53 plate , started having problems 2 weeks ago when she just cut out one day but started again after a wee while , since then she does it on a regular basis , but found that if i fiddle with the firs under the fuse box in the engine compartment she started , so i my world of wisdom i took the fuse box off and striped it down and cleaned it after reading it could be water in there , have put it all back together but NOW !!!!!!!! :bang:WAIT FOR IT EVERY TIME I RECONNECT THE BATTERY THE RADIATOR FAN COME STRAIGHT ON , and the car wont start come up with ABS fault , EBS fault , pulling my hair out here:eek: anyone have any ideas and please dont say take it to a garage as i have done that twice already and they told me they could find any thing wrong , plus i cant afford another trip to the garage , so could really do with some bright ideas:idea: , many thanks for taking the time to read this . suzibear

had similar issue when water got in to same fuse relay area and rad fan was on constant what I found after cleaning out any moisture was that the relays should not be pushed fully in... if you look as fuse board there are small plastic stoppers to prevent relays being pushed in too far and causing shorting on the circuit of fuse board may be worth checking this on all the relays see if it helps your situation out

Hi mhowse, thanks for your message i have tried that but still not helped , God I think this will drive me crazy , if there are any other ideas i would be really grateful to hear them , I feel like a woman on the edge , with a box of matches ( only joking about the matches)

when you took fuse board apart to check water damage Suzie did you notice any dis-coloured burnt parts to the circuit board as these would need to be cleaned so that any silver circuit board tracks are not shorting across..I went through puddle and got water in the fuse board and got to the point that the fan would constant and even with turning off ignition engine in my jtd would keep running this was down to water causing the short circuit in the fuse box had to take apart dry out and clean away carefully any shorts on the board ..
Also you say that when you looked at a part under the fuse box in the past it started do you know exactly which part this was ..it would be worth looking at the D4 brown connector under the fuse board also as know for getting water in there and causing issues..just remove and clean if you have no contact cleaner,

a few other things to try suzie..do you know what condition your battery is in ..has it a good charge in it and when you say will not start does that mean the starter motor turns the engine but it will not fire up or does it just not turn the starter over,,asr faults can appear with low battery state of charge...also you could try going through the relays on the board and removing each one till fan stops turning I do not know off hand which is relay for fan but by removing each one and putting back in if fan does not stop you will find the fan one is what I did ..which will point you to the area of short on fuse board but not totally fix that problem until looking into fuse board again..these are just things to look at electrical issues can be case of try one thing and move on to trying something else..let us know how your getting on..least if you turn to box of matches you be nice and warm while you work on it

hi I did notice a little corrosion on D4 but to be honest I didnt think much of it at the time , will take it apart again tomorrow and clean it , thank you every so much for all your ideas and help .

Check that all of the earth wires at the battery are making good contact. I have not studied the wiring diagram properly in detail but when I removed one of the lighter gauge black wires from the battery to clean the terminal, the fan came on....

OK got the fiat started : ) but now the side lights are on when I start her and it says on the dash >>> ENGINE FAULT AND LOOSE CONNECTION : ( , AT THIS RATE I MIGHT GET A JOB WITH SOME DODGY CAR GARAGE , why have I started something I know nothing about ...... I know because I'm female I think I know everything , well I sure don't but I'm learning any ideas on what I'm doing wrong ?????????

hey least you getting somewhere with it Suzie ..getting it started is big improvement..is just Loose Connection and side lights on constant now..has the rad running constant stopped and what have you done so far to get to stage of engine running, imagine you could well have some fault codes stored in computers have you any diagnostic equipment to clear codes, also there are some codes that clear after 3 good starts of the engine with little reving of engine on each clean start...keep at it you car is at least in better state than yesterday wonder if you still have some issue and moisture in fuse relay board and is slowely drying out.

Hi Mhowse , just been and tried the 3 good starts and now i have nothing at all no dash lights or anything , she is dead could that just be battery ????

to go totally dead is unusual as you did have car running so should be enough power to least light side lights..unless with the sidelight issue and they were still on when you turned off ignition and drained battery you would need to put meter or test device on battery to know the stae battery is in..or one of the large fuses that sit on top of battery has blown killing all power from battery, you would need a drastic short to happen for one of them to blow..do you have anything to test battery with suzie..or know what you did early to get motor running earlier

ooh that is good least no big fuses blown..would get battery out and give good charge all the electric issues and testing have obviously drained it plus the cold will not help...once you get it well charged see what the situation is as weak battery in Stilo can cause all sorts of random electric faults ..also having battery out will help reset some car computers and at times is also done to clear electric faults..see how things are with good charged battery

Just spoke nicely to the guy across the road an he has loaned me a battery charger so going to put it on charge over night , so next episode of suzi and the stilo tomorrow , watch this space !!!!!!

well afternoon fellow fiat lovers , well my day is not going well put battery on after charge all night and guess what ???? you got nothing at all , think i might of done something nasty to her .... put key in try to start her and there is nothing at all not a flicker of a light not even the dimmest of glows I think she might be dead : ( could be cremation before crimbo , totally gutted at the moment so if any one has any ideas at all please contact me , I'm a woman on the edge , look like nanook of the north in the snow but i have to get her working ... HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

;

yesterday before you took battery out you said that you jumped started it and was running..all that has happend since is you putting battery on charge so would of only removed positive and negative terminals from battery charged battery and replaced ....so first thing is to just test battery again you could put the jump leads again on to battery terminals and no need to fire up motor if you not wish just turn key till dash lights are supposed to light that way you will know if battery has no charge in it...
white stuff is coming down thick and heavy up here in inverness too watch you not get any snow melting into your electrics and fuse area again..ideally a multimeter for electric testing be handy for you at moment

Aww we'll nothing wrong with battery so I have bought a replacement fusebox on eBay ,so waiting for the postman to bring it before I can post episode 3of Suzi and the stilo !!!!

Do you have a cover for the battery and fuse area Suzi..asking as if not then good possibility of water damage to fuse area if you do not have one ,and you be a dab hand at swapping it over with the problems it given you.once sorted and if you do not have cover for the battery fuse area be worth getting one expecially where you live as each time I go down A9 is raining in Dunkeld,,let us know what situation is once you try the other fuse board
