what do you boys recommend and why?

Redex, SPJ, Comma, X1R?

ive got MOT running out in Feb ill be puting new cat and lambdas in aswell as exhaust flexi. will be giving her a full service and clearing out the TB. seems kinda pointless in not doing some with the fuel system whilst im in there messing around.

what kind of mileage will i have to do before fuel trims sort themselves out?
does disconnecting the battery reset fuel trims?
is there any free software you guys know about that can look at fuel trims successfully (my copy of Proscan has fuel trim option but for some reason the stilo wont spit out the info it needs so i have no idea how its trimming) ?

how will that help injectors MEP?

It doesn't, but cleans the rest of the cylinder, and exhaust value.

why's that then?

Will have exactly the same cleaning qualities as any normal fuel with snake oil, except the 'additives' tend to be in a higher concentration.

TBH injector cleaner in the quantities it goes through the system at isn't likely to make any difference. fuel itself has cleaning qualities, and filters should stop any crap getting to an injector, so using fuel additives tend to be a waste of both time and money.

im a firm believer that redex does work for pullin emissions down before an MOT i used it on my cinq which after a hard blast was runnin 2.50 CO and after a dose of redex through the same roads it had dropped to passable limits...

ill try some v-power if you recommend it but ill still be needing and OBD program to compare trims before and after

Agreed, done it myself once in a Brava 80SX which failed on emission, although not sure if the 150 miles blast from South London to Lowestoft was part of the help also in my case.

I'm on my first tank of V-power diesel (now I'm on the dirty stuff :() and MPG on dash seems about 4 MPG better, although will wait to see fuelly stats after a few tanks, and seems better on power take off, although again could be physiological. Not looked at fuel trim readouts to compare though.

I have Scan master, but will check my fuel trims also with WinOBD.
Also I have tried Scantool but couldn't properly start it...
Trims should go away with "Clear faults" command.

About cleaners...I tried LiquiMoly Injector Reiniger, but I did not get too much improvement. Last year I did ultrasonicaly cleaning of injectors, also without bigger improvement (but better MPG).

Good luck !

I always use Forte(http://www.forteuk.co.uk), have had good results on both petrol and diesels.

But I've found I get the best results on the diesels by filling them up with Bio-Diesel and replacing the fuel filter. A tank or 2 of Bio(properly refined bio, not filtered cooking oil) has excellent lubricating and cleaning properties. All diesel sold in the UK already has a minimum of 5% bio added to it for that reason(plus we're slowly running out of Dino diesel).

A 50 x 50 mix of dino and bio will clean your diesel fuel system better than ANY injection cleaner on the market today. Any diesel built after 2000 should run perfectly well on the mix(http://www.biodieselfillingstations.co.uk/approvals.htm) ..

A pint or two of ATF in the tank used to be a cheap method of cleaning injectors. Never had any problems using this method. :)
