Hi

I need some advice. Feeling a bit uncertain atm. I need to know best tyre pressure (PSI / Bar) for my car. Not had it long....

The car is a 2003 reg- JTD 1.9 Diesel 115 (3dr) with 17" Alloys.

Whilst the handbook says 2.3bar on all four tyres for this model and tyre width, but when at this pressure and driving it is clearly not right, feeling unstable, with alot of 'drag' and the tyres even look under-inflated!

I've tried gradual increases and now drive at 2.8bar / 40psi - and it feels much more stable, handles well and tyres don't show uneven wear any more.

However the the tyre walls says 50psi! I think this is very high! Am I right in my caution here? Any advice on optimum pressure would be most welcome

Because of my job, I do roughly an a equal combination of motorway and town driving, usually only me (or one other passenger max) in the car.

Hope you guys can advise :)

Dom.

am sure everone has their own opinion on what pressure in tyres suits their use of the car for me on my jtd multiwagon 34 psi all round suits my driving and load carried in vehicle that is with 17 standard alloy wheels

Thanks. I guess it's all down to personal choice then, as long as they are not too low/high to cause road hazard to others/driving.

As mine 'feels' OK at 2.8/2.9 - I will remain with that :)

I would add though that I would not think on having 50 psi as you would be putting tyres out of a shape that would give much need tread contact to road surface sort of bow shaping the tyres at that pressure..I think low profile tyres do tend to look deflated when at correct pressure due to profile being small.
