2005 mod. Stilo 1,6i 16V.

One morning the battery was "dead". After recharging the battery, the coolingfan starts imideatley when the battery is conected.

When try to start, the yellow symbol in the display showing a car with a locked padlock. I have tried with booth keys, but its the same result.

ECU-problems, or immobilisercoil, OR something else......

Did you charge the battery on the car or off?

If on the car, did you disconnect the battery earth first?

Does sound like an imobiliser issue to me to be honest... question is...

Why?

Charged the battery in the car, but with the ground connector off

OK, so I would be starting down the route of a failed Anti-theft device.

I think there is plenty information available within the Forum on doing that.

According to the Fiat dealer / Garage this is "normal" if the battery is outpowered.
Is there a way to make the car "read" the keys without towing it to a Fiat garage..?

If you have the 5 digit "ELECTRONIC CODE" for the car, you could try the emergency start procedure. I believe it only works for early Stilos but I don't know up to what date.

  1. Switch the ignition on (MAR position) but do not start the engine.
  2. Hold the accelerator pedal down. The engine management warning light should illuminate for about 8 seconds then go out.
  3. Release the accelerator pedal and get ready to count the flashes of the warning light.
  4. Count the number of flashes that corresponds to the first digit of the security code, then press the accelerator until the warning light comes on for about 4 seconds and goes off, then release the pedal.
  5. The warning light will start flashing again. After it has flashed the number of times that corresponds to the second digit of the code, press the pedal to the floor until the warning light comes on for about 4 seconds and goes off.
  6. Repeat the same process for the remaining 3 digits of the code.
  7. Rapid flashing of the warning light for about 4 seconds confirms that the procedure has been carried out successfully. The engine should start by turning the key from MAR to AVV.
  8. If the warning light stays on, turn the ignition off and repeat the procedure from step 1.
This procedure will only start the engine once. If the engine is switched off, you will need to repeat the whole procedure to start it again.

Thank\s for the tip Davren.

It worked, except that I dont have the code.....
I`ve just bought the car, and the previus owner knows nothing about this.

Who know`s, or where to find the code. Via the VIN- / Chassisnumber

you will need 5 digit electronic code only available from fiat dealer unless previous owner has gained it already from fiat ..I paid £35 plus vat took my log book to dealer and they got it in 5 minutes for me..
