Hey Everyone,

So recently I've noticed that my Stilo has been going through oil like its going out of fashion!

I'm getting the "Low oil pressure warning" every time I turn around a sharp corner as well. There is no obvious oil leaks and no performance issues too but there is alot of blue smoke as well. I bought this car around a month ago and Im starting to think there was an under lying issue with it.

So far, the ideas I have could be block breather or piston rings and possibly the head gasket but its not misfiring.

Anyone got any other ideas which could cause this?

Should have put that in, it's a 04 1.6 active sport. The blue smoke doesn't seem too bad until i hit about 40k revs then it pelts out.

Okay, so I've taken it to a couple of garages now. Both have the same idea and both have said the exact same thing.

The company that i bought the car from masked the problem and sold the car to me with a Donald ducked engine.


Took it back today to the place i bought it, but i was totally fobbed off and told it's not up to them to fix it now.

I know this isn't the case, but does anyone have any any experience with dealing with bad dealerships?

If it was from a proper trade seller then it must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and match its description. Any faults must be declared or visible. The dealer is not responsible for general breakdowns, wear and tear and faults caused through your misuse of the vehicle.

Your fault, at a rough guess, sounds like o ring seals and that makes him pretty responsible if you ask me...

Cheers for the advice Minus, this problem started happening 3 days after i bought the car. Also i had the "low oil pressure" while driving home with it. It's not general wear and tear which is obviously expected in a car of its age. There was no mention about any problems with the engine at all.


No matter anyway, I've spoken to a friend that is in law and have been told that i have 6 months to get back to them if i believe that the problem was there when i bought the car and it's up to them to fix it, give me a replacement car of simmilar value, size and condition or provide a independent investigation (normally the RAC or the AA) in to the condition of the vehicle prior to the sale.


If they don't want to provide that, it's off to a small claims court due to it being under £3k.

Also i called from work (where all calls are recorded) 3 days after i bought the car to tell them that there was a problem with the engine but again was fobbed off.

Your local Trading Standards department may be interested.
