Hi,
Thanks for all advice so far :D
How do I remove AC compressor belt? How can I stretch/loosen the belt?

Menola

I had to cut mine to get it off - I concluded it would be destroyed anyway. If you buy a new original one from FIAT it comes with a special little tool, for safe install. The tool (metal part with two small flanges) is inserted between the crankshaft sprocket/wheel and the belt. Then rotate right wheel (5th gear or so) to get it on. (y)

Hi,
Ok thanks :D

menola

I shall change waterpump tonight :)

Hm, plastic rotor!? The new one has metal rotor. Plastic rotor could looosen when it is hot.

i just pulled it to the side whilst turning the crank. it just rolled its way on :). be careful though as you can VERY VERY easily damage the belt doing this.

The 1.6 has a different system than the 1.8 right? I think it has a separate belt just for the AC. Exactly how much power do you feel it is lost when turning on the AC?

Mine uses the auxiliary belt for the AC and although it's a powerful engine I think it takes about 20HP from the engine to be honest. It's not broken, my father's 1.8 does exactly like mine but it's a shame really to take so much power. It does provide ice cold air through the vents though. So cold, that vapors come out when I open the door on the 40 degrees climate here.

That's correct, and it is very easy to change, especially if you buy Fiat's belt - that comes with the "spoon" tool.

Interresting. I really don't notice difference at all on my 1.6. I remember though, on a previous Mondeo from 95, that it was very noticeable when the compressor was enabled, so we always shut off the AC before enthusiastic driving. :D

im sure our ecus have a shut off for the air con when 100% throttle is enabled anyways.

fiats have had this tech running since the coupe's :) so it can take as much as it wants. it will cut off when u boot it and enable as soon as u ease off :)

Can I remove A/C-compressor and put on the belt and then mount the A/C-compressor?

menola

That is a rather big job instead of changing the belt.

What are you repairing by the way?

If you remove the compressor you have to unbolt a couple of aircon pipes/hoses. These have very special green gaskets inside - which are not avaliable separately - you have to buy complete hoses/pipes from Fiat to get new gaskets = expensive. And you will need a re-gas if your system is opened (not environment friendly...).

It's so bad that sometimes I almost stall the engine when pulling off the junctions. Without AC I barely touch the gas pedal to pull off, with AC the engine struggles to pull off even with 25% of the gas pedal pressed. Once it gets going it's more or less alright, although you need to remember you are using AC before overtaking like you used to.

I think it's because the compressor is on the same belt as everything else the acceleration lags. Anyway, it's not something I like but I guess I can live with. :)

I managed to fit the A/C belt. 3 screws lose on AC and mount it again.

Hm, the engine is still hot and temp goes up/down.

Mm nooo.

HELP!! Uff...

menola

The belt is mounted but the engine is hot and unsteady temp after changed thermostat and waterpump. Best air lock guide?

menola

Hi,
Yesterday, temp was rising to 3/4 and I drove lite rally and it went away.

Hm...

Menola

Hi,
Then I switch A/C off inside the car with the ICE button, the temp rises to the middle. A/C sensor broken?

Any Ideas?
