Hi,

This morning I was stuck behind a Ford Fiesta about 20 years old.. I came to a straight, and I went to overtake, put my foot down, and the turbo kicked in but as soon as I got to 3000rpm, the car beeped "engine fault", the EML came and the car slowed down, even though my foot was to the floor.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm due a service hopefully this will be the problem. A clogged up filter or something. I'm hoping it's nothing to do with the turbo! :(

Any help appreciated!

Owen.

I've had this happen twice before. Mine was due to leaks in the vacuum pipes to do with the turbo boost control valve (the one people move to the side of the battery box).

Here's a link to a thread about this, the solution Argo found is about half way down page 2 - https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/162784-jtd-extreme-turbo-lag.html

I think it can also be caused by leaks in the intercooler pipes from the turbo, the main place this happens is where one of the pipes pass through the plastic wheel well liner on the passenger side and they rub together and the liner cuts through the pipe.

P.S. I think failing or gummed up MAF &/or MAP sensors and clogged EGR's can cause these limp home mode problems as well.

Thanks mate! I'll check all the tubing over. I'm sure the pipe between Intercooler and turbo has a leak. It's been whooshing for a while now. My EGR has been blanked off, but I think I'll get a new MAF when I get the car serviced next week too and I'll clean the MAP sensor too.

Hopefully with that all done, It'll sort the problem and I'll feel the difference. Reading over Argo's thread, I wonder whether It might be cat related. I've decatted the mid-section but I think the front section is blowing, so the front cat may be affected might consider decatting the front as well (The guy said it was a pig of a job though)

Well there are rumors that the presence & functonality of the cats will be introduced into MOT's.

But the JTD is fast enough for me as it is, a decat is just an unnecessary expenditure and effort. The most I might do is get a remap and then the car would have more than enough poke for me.

I've heard this too! Luckily my local garage would overlook my cats ;) I've got a full standard exhaust system to rebolt on anyway, if needs be.

I've decatted the mid-section and remapped, and I must say the difference is simply mind boggling. Until now.. Hopefully it's just a hose!
