Hey folks!

Wondering if someone could point me in the right direction with this before spending loads on the car (again!)

Stilo Abarth, 2.4, 02 plate

On Monday the car would not start, just turning over and over and over. Removed and replaced small fuses under bonnet and reset ECU by removing the battery for a while.

Started fine, no issues until the Tuesday!

Same thing happened, but it is refusing to start. Hooked upto registered Fiat ECU Scan today and got a mahoosive list of error codes (below) Also, there is a slight buzzing noise coming from the ECU (top right of engine). Have tried unplugging this and reconnecting with no sucess.

Thanks in advance!

Blimey, looks more like a receipt from Halfords! Well, I'd have a bash at three things! Knackered ECU. Knackered alternator output which has knackered the ECU. Or water in the ECU connector causing shorts. Sure other forum members have some more ideas but those are what i'd go for.

check your battery and ground connections....
the buzzing comes from your throttle body which is driven by a rather high frequent PWM signal which is audible .

are these all historic errors or current? IE. when you clear them do they return? id only be interested with returning ones as some could have been stored for years.

Do they or does Fiat ECU's forget a fault if it clean starts and runs ok 3 times? Don't know, just wondering.

i think some clear but im sure (could be wrong) some faults are only clearable with the reader.

tbh though ALL the above errors just seem like a complete can line shut down. and a ecu would be high on my thoughts as to what has died.!.

To have so many engine and gearbox fault codes would suggest an engine earth lead problem. The dashboard codes B1001, B100C and B100E are also codes that would be generated by a faulty body earth. Common point for both the engine and body earth is at the battery terminal. Check that both +ve and -ve battery terminals are clean and tight and the master fuse connections in the fuseboard on top of the battery.

Thanks for the advice folks!
Will have another look shortly.

These codes come up when I click Scan or DTC Scan. When I click Connect, it comes up with no errors at all, and there is nothing that can actually be cleared.

Should all the current errors be showing up when I click the connect icon in ecuscan?

Thanks!!

yeh scan is the same. are you sure you are connecting to the right ecu when you do it individually??. just checking because if errors are showing in the full scan, they will be there when done individually

Right - quick update!

I had selected stilo 2.4 on ecuscan originally. Changed this to selespeed and it worked fine, and only brought up relevant fault codes! (Lesson learned there)

Had already replaced crankshaft position sensor, but still wouldn't start. Ecuscan showed a fault with camshaft position sensor, so replaced that and she fired up just fine!

Now, another fault that seems to have developed since fitting the cam sensor is a lack of power in 1st and 2nd gear. Thought this may clear itself, but not yet:-(

Is it possible that the timing belt has not been put back on exactly as it came off, or could it be something else?

Can put my foot to the floor in 1st and 2nd and it just crawls along - no power at all. Once engine is a little warmer, this happens less often.

Thanks in advance again, and big thanks to previous posters!
