Hi all, new to the forum.
I've got a knocking on the front end when going over bumps. Taken it to Kwik Fit...they said the drop links are shot and want £140 to do it all. I had a look yesterday and the drop links are solid, no movement in them and no signs of ware. The back bush on the lower wishbone has a split in it but can't see if it's been knocking on the sub frame.
Can anyone give me any other ideas of what to look for? The car seems low at the front too, the splash guard often scrapes against the ground/speed bumps, is there a fixed measurement from the ground to somewhere on the front for reference??
Many thanks

Drop links are very common they don’t always show as being worn, cheap to buy £20ish easy to do.

I would think with the right gear 15 minutes so £140 sounds like a rip off, diy should take about 30 minutes.

Both my stilo’s scraped larger speed bumps I just lived with it they are very low on the front.

well, Kwik Fit may have given you a free diagnosis. I just recently changed my drop link on my Ford Maverick 4x4. Made a clunk/rattle type sound. Rubber had gone though on mine, so was obvious. Very easy job to do generally on cars, certainly on the Stilo from what I have read, and £140 is DEFINATELY a rip off, a smaller independent would probably do it for about £40 plus parts.

also consider snapped suspension/faulty shock-perhaps Kwik Fit noted this, and would have charged you for it once they had you for the drop link job-be wary! try bouncing each corner of the car, it should go down, up then settle, it should not bounce more than that, and it shouldnt drop like a rock or make a noise.

good luck!

HOLLY CR@P, that is the dearest ive seen!!!
put it into prespective, i just had a clutch change for £250 on the jtd!! a job that takes many hours over a job that takes 30mins for only £110 more!!.

kwik fit are rips i would never use them again after the stunt they pulled on a friend of mine wife (another story another time).

drop links are a doodle, you can pick them up from around £10 each, i personally would get premium brand or oem as the price difference is (approx £15 each) is not worth coming back to the job when the cheap ones wear out quickly.
euro car parts stock the oems if memory serves.. if your a returning customer remember to order over the phone at your local branch as they give you bigger discounts the longer you have been a customer.

Interested in the outcome of this, my recently purchased stilo is doing the same, however i'm trying to get my other issues sorted out first. Please update when you get to the bottom of it
