Just had a conversation with my brother about the insurance which is up for renewal on the 5th and my jaw nearly hit the ground!

Last May after my first insurance claim my quote for the year on the Stilo was over £1200. Now this time round I've gained my first years NCB and my new quote?...£700!! :D

I couldn't believe it! My brothers insurance on his 06 Leon FR last year was £600 odd but this year his has gone up to £800 something! Plus last year the advisor on the phone told me to expect a 10% decrease come this timeround once my years no claims kicked in - but that's way more than 10 per cent!

It's probably worth noting that me and my brother have our cars insured under the MultiCar policy with Admiral - both cars are insured on different policies so each driver gains their own NCB. If this isn't proof of value for money then I don't know what is!

wife:- 96' Toyota Celica GT last year £2800FC this year with 2NCB and 2 yr experience... a shade under £900FC

me:- 02' Fiat Stilo 1.6 Dynamic, Last year £1800TPFT this year with a clear 2NCB £922FC

and i get clubcard points on both policies ;)

Wow that's near enough 50% you're saving there! Niiice :D

Should have mentioned that I'm fully comp as well...but I don't get club card points (n) I think having much cheaper insurance this year after last years claim is enough for me, maybe next year I'll be more demanding

Mines for a 1.4 Bravo has gone from £1500 to £1000 to £600 and current quotes say next year it'll be £400...gotta love NCB!

However, my dad insuring my car would cost him £182. Sigh.

Ah to be an old git..... I pay about £200 a year, fully comp for the Stilo, and thats partly because I slid into another car back in 2010 in the snow and caused a bit of damage.

My 1992 Cooper costs me about £110 a year to insure and its modified.... low milage policy though.

for me and my 1.9jtd 115, it's cost me £500FC with the other half on and i've 3 yrs NCD with 3 years licence, yet if i was to get a quote for her focus, it's nearly 800 for a 1.6

Postcodes make a difference too. 30 miles away from my house, insurance is double! I could move nearer work, but the fuel savings would be eaten up by the insurance increase.
So if you rent, it could be worth paying more in rent in a nicer area, because your insurance might offset it...

How can you find out what effect your post code has? I'm PA11, can anyone tell me is that's good or bad? I live in a peaceful neighbourhood so it must be ok? :p

I'm only a 10min drive from work, and there are some pretty nice apartments around here to rent so if I could only get cheaper insurance then I'll be sorted :D

I like that quote for the AGP! :worship:

GO to one of the online places, I use Quidco.com, and get a quote. Then just modify it at a different address, see if it changes.

You can also save a bit this way - use startrescue.co.uk for breakdown cover, £35 a year for recovery and home cover (jump start you if you'r battery goes flat), and they give you legal cover as part of the deal, which is usually a few quid a month on your main insurance policy.

About the only good thing on getting old (71) is car insurance. I pay the staggering sum of £158 FC for the 3dr JTD.

If anyone is not aware of the new Coop insurance "Black Box" scheme it may be worthwhile enquiring.

My grandson who is 17 has just got his first insurance on a Ford Fiesta having had the 'black box' fitted for £900/annum on a monthly payment that reduces by, I think its, 30% monthly after 3 months providing he stays within the parameters set - i.e. no speeding, excessive acceleration/braking/ cornering.

I believe Churchill are about to introduce it as well. There maybe others.

That's dirt cheap for a first car! I've sen people struggling to get under the 2 grand mark for any car.

I think it's good to introduce things like this for first time drivers, sure enough they MAY be more of a risk but there are ways of monitoring individuals driving - helps the insurer if the worst happens but also helps bring the cost down for the driver and would hopefully improve driving standards amongst young drivers. It's a win win for both partys really!

The big problem with the Black Box is the time limits imposed, when you're allowed to drive and not. I get why they do it, so as to keep young drivers off the roads when they are dark and quiet, when you're likely to speed, but there are so many 'what ifs' associated with having set times you can drive in. Like, what if i NEED to get someplace after these hours, in an emergency or whatever. And on a fair few nights out after work, I've found it easier to drive, leave the car someplace and pick it up. But due to the time restrictions, i would need to get a taxi, so you've paid for insurance which means you need to leave your car at home, while paying a taxi fair too. Its good in principle but there are a few holes which need ironing out before it becomes popular i think.

Also, living on a main road i need to accelerate hard most morning just to get a gap at peak times, and they wouldn't like that one bit.
