Off Topic Stilo 1.2 = Insurance Heaven! :)

I had an ikube box for my first year and have just come off of it, for me it was really good because 9 times out of 10 if i'm out after 11 i'm out drinking so shouldnt be driving, and it also meant i never had to be designated driver :D

The big problem with the Black Box is the time limits imposed, when you're allowed to drive and not. I get why they do it, so as to keep young drivers off the roads when they are dark and quiet, when you're likely to speed, but there are so many 'what ifs' associated with having set times you can drive in. Like, what if i NEED to get someplace after these hours, in an emergency or whatever. And on a fair few nights out after work, I've found it easier to drive, leave the car someplace and pick it up. But due to the time restrictions, i would need to get a taxi, so you've paid for insurance which means you need to leave your car at home, while paying a taxi fair too. Its good in principle but there are a few holes which need ironing out before it becomes popular i think.

Also, living on a main road i need to accelerate hard most morning just to get a gap at peak times, and they wouldn't like that one bit.

I know what you mean, to be honest I don't see the point in the curfew if the cars parameters are being recorded. Driving at night means it's less busy so less of a chance that the insurance company will have to pay out to a 3rd party as well in the event of a claim. But the driver wouldn't/shouldn't be driving immaturely if his driving was being monitored so it theoreticly reduces the chances of a claim being made.

To me anyway, having your own driving recorded and monitored would have been enough for me to be more careful with how I drove in my first year. A curfew just seems a bit much - I mean they're 17/18+ they should be out there experiencing what it's like. Or maybe a better idea would be fr the curfew to be lifted IF the driver has completed a pass plus course in their first year?

Surely the idea behind the curfew is not to stop drivers going on the roads when it's quieter but to stop them going out on the lash?
The other thing is, if you NEED to use the car after the curfew because of work (going or returning) then it wouldn't be unreasonable to change the parameters?

Rip off Britain mate, policies go up every year due to Insurance firms wanting higher profits and off-setting bogus claims (instead of investigating properly).

I'm pretty much happy if my policy stays the same year on year, then I know I've got a good deal.

Not a new phenomenon though, when I viewed my first car (that I didn't buy because of the insurance), the insurance was more than value of the car.

£300 mini (back in 93/94 ish), 3rd party only (when you could still get it), £350. I was a real student though, didn't have 2 brass tacks to rub togeather lol. I made £30 a week (working 2 evenings and saturday in a shop), £10 beer money, £10 weekly bus ticket, £10 for lunches.

Now with Admiral. Tesco's was going to charge me over £1000 for my vehicles.

Have '94 Celica GT & '52 Stilo. The Stilo doesn't cross over till Sept, but I think total cost is around £600.

Still miffed though... Was only paying £250 since 2000 on my '96 Celica till I wrote her off last year...

And I keep telling the brokers that I should be paying less: as I can only drive one of my cars at a time lol

My 1.4 Stilo is coming in cheaper than my MG ZR 1.4 that someone wrote off..think I'm saving about £100 (until my insurance goes up from the claim )..don't live in the best area and have paid £520 this year, so quite happy with that.

My best mate recently moved into his grans and hasn't changed his address, and has also put down the address of where he keeps his car (mk4 R32) as his girlfriends house which is just up the road from me, and that reduced his premium by £250 lol considering he stays in the same village just a 2 minute drive up a hill to his mrs' it's a considerable saving!

But thats optional, your 3rd party liability is covered in your road taxation there isn't it
Not quite. We have ACC which covers medical bills due to accident but that will not cover the damage to the vehicles or property damage.

I didn't make it clear that $NZ280 was annual premium, full no claims.

Risk of theft is issue and good security on FIAT helps.

Banks and insurance firms.... the reason we are in this mess right up to our necks.

Me bad, I thought you said investing, not investigating

FYI though, a lot of claims are investigated, but a lot are legit - the costs with these claims isn't the injury claim itself, more the highly inflated associated costs around claims in general - legal fees, costs of 3rd party car hire firms etc (n)

I was actually quite stunned at how cheap the Stilo Abarth is to insure for me - Costs me £14 less a year than the '02 Citroen C5 diesel it replaced for fully comp cover, and that was hardly expensive at £278 for the year.

You're lucky, getting to talk about how cheap it is to insure your abarth :( Wish I was quoted that for an abarth! I'm probably somwhere round about the 1k mark no doubt - maybe next year with my second years ncb added I can realisticly look at getting one :) Need something with a bit more power for a road trip to Germany (or Sweden)!
