Hey, apologies if this has already been posted about, after an hour of searching i decided to throw in the towel, register on this and start a thread. This place has always been helpful in a lot of other areas to the point where I've never even needed to post something, just needed to browse til I've found someone with the same problem and one of the many helpful people on this site that have decided to aid him/her...
However, I think this may be a bit of a niche problem. I recently purchased a Fiat Stilo 1.6 16V 5 door [AC], reasonably cheap, low mileage, 53 plate, 1 owner and looks like it's been looked after (clean interior, full service history etc.). After driving it for a week or 2, I started to notice a few of the smaller things that you don't really see on purchase of the car but begin to notice in regular driving of it.
A I mentioned above, most of the little nitty gritty problems have simple solutions which I have easily found on here, but the boot shelf is giving me a bit of headache. When i open the boot all is fine, the shelf comes up via the strings attached to the window and I have open access to the boot. But when I close the boot, as I do it slowly, the main shelf comes down as it normally would, rests in it's rightful place, as I am still in the process of lowering the door, but at the final part of closing the door, the rear wiper motor pushes down on the rear part of the shelf, causing it to pivot from the front part of it and flip up, resulting in the rear part of the shelf being lower than it should be and the front half being higher. This of course causes an obstruction in my rear view as the shelf is sticking up and not resting usually.
There is a normally shaped gap at the back of the shelf which should usually allow the wiper motor to sit in the space comfortably without it touching the shelf, but it doesn't seem to be doing the job, it just pushes down on the shelf every time I close the boot.
Everything else on the shelf looks normal, the strings are attached to the window as normal and the rollers are sitting on top of the panels each side at the front of the shelf, but one thing that strikes me is that there is nothing above the rollers stopping them from moving out of place. There are little slits in the panels near where the rollers are but I'm pretty sure the rollers aren't meant to fit in there as I've tried quite hard to somehow get them in but had no luck.
Sorry if this is an annoyingly trivial thread with a annoyingly trivial problem, but it's just that every time I have to close my boot I have to awkwardly hold my arm under the door, grabbing onto the shelf, or adjust it from the rear seats after closing the boot, just so I have a clear view out of the rear.
I can supply pictures of how it's sitting if needed and if any additional info is required do not hesitate to ask.
Wondering if anyone had the same problem...
Appreciate any help anyone has to offer.
