General Steering wheel

Hello

My steering wheel isn't centered when my wheels are straight. Is it just a matter of removing the steering wheel and putting it back on straight?

Thanks, Phil

It's most likely a tracking issue. Removing the steering wheel and replacing it in the right position will not solve it but make it worse!

Take it to a garage and ask for the tracking to be checked (y)

But,
I took my car to geometry adjustment twice and the problem persist.
I think that there must be some trick to get it in the center.

In the store guys told me that tracking is done OK. Maybe I should get it to the FIAT service...

...does anybody knows how to solve this

Yes, well said.
Anyone who knows what thy 're doing... Guess they didn't...
Next stop: - Fiat service.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I didn't realise the tracking could affect the alignment of the steering wheel. However when I had two new tyres fitted on Saturday, the inside of the front drivers side tyre did look a bit more worn than the rest. Am I right in thinking this is a tracking issue aswell?

Thanks

Phil

yeah thats correct, if it's the inside of the drivers wheel that was scrubbed then the wheel is toe out, BUT the best thing to do it get it tracked but make sure, the company that does it LOCKS off the steering wheel at straight before starting to track,

there is a way the steering wheel can be out... if the UJ has been refitted wrong on the steering rack. but its pretty unlikely

chances are its a tracking issue, get it done by a reputable place!

There is a very good reputable tyre and exhaust place near me, always busy! I'll pop there and get the tracking checked :)

Went this morning to reputable service for wheel tracking, and what I was told is that the problem might be in electric steering pump.

They also said that this is easy to check, just simply lift car, put steering wheel (with wheels) in center and start the engine.

If pump is dis-balanced it should instantly move the wheels to side. On the other hand, if the wheels stay steady (in center), pump works well and doesn't have to be „serviced“.

Have anybody of You guys heared about this ?

the motor is 'passive' not 'active' i.e when there is no steering input the motor isnt working when you put a turning force onto the steering wheel the motor aids with turning and depending on the rate of change the motor helps more or less

Thanks guys, I forgott to mention that I went to this service without my car, just to ask if they have a clue about this.

So, what should I do to get steerin wheel back in the centre when released from hands..?
