Hi

I have just purchased another Stilo Multiwagon to replace my old one that I had clocked up 331,000 miles in truly a fantastic car
The key fob on the new car would not operate the locks etc I put a new battery in it thinking it was dead, with the new battery in the red light on the fob is constantly on, I have not tried it on the car. any idea's
Many thanks Dennis

Sorry for hijacking your thread, but i was wondering about stilo key fob. When u press button for a key blade, does it pop up when pressed, or do you need to "bend" it manualy? Cuz when i press the button, nothing happends and i need to "bend" key blade manualy, and its quit annoying.

Sorry for grammar, and once again, sorry for taking over your thread.

hi, no this is not normal action on forums, i didnt want to start a new topic cuz, of the simplisity of the question, (spaming reasons), i thought it would be just a simple bonus question, to your problem.
I'm truly sorry.

Regarding your original question, did you try to see if key microchip wasnt damaged?

To answer both questions, from what I know the red LED needs to blink when you press on a button of the fob, if it's always on, that indicates that it's past it and you need to replace the fob part.
Now, can the car be started with the key? If so they you can get away cheaply by buying a used fob and replacing the fob pcb, but keeping the transponder. If you do not know what is what inside the key, you can open it up, take a picture, post it to this thread and I will point it out to you.

Keep in mind that you will need to have it reprogrammed to work with your car.
The other option is to get a new one, but that a lot more expensive, and even new form the dealer you still end up paying for the reprogramming!

And for Studentas, the blade needs to flick out by itself!

Hope this helps,
Dan

Hi Dennis,

The fob part of the key is the green PCB (first on the left). Now the reason I asked for a photo is because some fobs have the transponder stuck to the PCB and I don't know how easy it is go get them off.
Please check the outlined area in the photo(because of the quality of the photo I can't tell if it's there or not):

for something similar to this:

that is the transponder and without it, the car will not start.
If the transponder is separate from the pcb, then all is well, you just need to source a working fob and talk to your local dealer about the reprogramming.

Cheers,
Dan

Here's a guide for repairing whatever your problem with the fobe is. If it's too badly worn, check for aftermarket cases. I can find them in Romania so you should be able to find them in the UK as well. These cost around 10 pounds. If not, you can try to refurbish the key but don't do the nasty color I did. :)

If you cannot open the car using the remote and the light stays on all the time, chances are the electronics have packed in or are coroded. Nevertheless, open it to see what's inside, clean it, put it back, it it's the same you'll need a new second hand key reprogrammed.
