I own a 1.2 2002 active and i currently need stilo jedi masterminds :worship: to help me out,
I put my ignition on and have the following show;
ASR FAILURE
EBD FAILURE
ABS FAILURE
LOOSE CONNECTION
ALTERNATOR FAIL
BULB FAILURE (My number plate light and my rear left brake light)
AIRBAG FAILURE (Has been on since ive owned the car)
also there are a few clicking noises coming from my ABS unit and today my ECU went crazy making a machine gun type noise.

I try and turn my car over and it has none of it it just dies, every thing is dead when i try and start my car. I have a decent battery, a varta E13 so dont think it is the battery.

The problems started to occure when i was driving back from scarbrough, my stereo cut out and my lights started to go dim then all the warning lights came on and the power steering cut out. My first thorght is the alternator so i have bought a new one and i am just awaiting the arrival.

I would be happy with any help whatsoever as i will be trying every method avaliable untill i get my car working again,
Many thanks Aj20.

Woah that's a lot of warnings you got going on there! That's this years Christmas decorations sorted  :D lol

Seriously...A lot of dash warnings springing up on the dash can be caused by a failing battery. Stilos don't take kindly to voltage drops. Though if you say the battery's fine, get it checked in another car fully charged first then see how it holds a charge. If it definately is ok then the alternator could be faulty and not prviding enough charge to your battery thus causing pain and suffering for all your lovely Stilo electrics (n)

So yeah get your battery tested on another car while you're waiting on the alternator, then when the battery's returned (all ok hopefuly) then go ahead and fit the alternator and see if it's working (y)

cheers pal, i will test battery out tomorrow after work as i willput it on a slow charge while im working,
hopefully fingers crossed it is the alternator and the battery as i can get a decent battery through work (i work as a coach builder so get a load of goodies free :) )

Thank you for the quick reply(y)

Out of interest what should the battery voltage be? Mines at 14v and been told the alternator checked out ok

Is your engine cutting out randomly whilst driving?
Im also getting the loose connection alternator failure (engine management light on) and car shuts down but starts straight away.
I get security failure and car doesnt start..abs and light failure too.

Got it booked in for a advanced diagnostic test this weekend hope its not the ECU but just a earth/loose wiring fault somewhere

Not sure if this was the reason why ?but since i had the brake light switch replaced few weeks ago this got rid of the airbag warning which i also had on the car like forever.

Keep us posted(y)

Thorough check of all the battery connections and clean won't go a miss. Sounds like one of three things. Low voltage, bad earth, faulty ecu. Multimeter across the battery terminals should give you over 12 volts and around 14 when the engine (alternator) is running.

also there are a few clicking noises coming from my ABS unit and today my ECU went crazy making a machine gun type noise.

Are you sure it was your ECU? I have the 1.2 Active also, I had problems with it starting a few months back and it made this awful noise, like when you used to put a coke can or a ice lolly stick in the spokes of you bike wheels? :D Turned out to be the relay for the engine T5 or something was clicking on/off so quickly it was just violent sounding :(

So it might be worth a shot checking over each of your relays in the engine fusebox - I've had 3 relays stuck open causing my car to be unable to start (n) Repalced the engine T5, horn and front fog lights relay as they all failed, now runs fine.

It may also be worth a shot checking the earth point on the DSF next to the battery - will get a picture of it up soon.

check the relay mentioned above and also get the alternator tested if you are sure the battery is fine. A failing alternator wont charge the battery sufficiently and cause a voltage issue. The warning systems work on voltages being wrong to trigger the warnings on the dash.

That amount of warnings can be caused by a voltage drop. had it on a 1.2 when it was about 3yr old starting in -8 weather. I even got high coolant temp stop engine (and it was stood still for 2 days before starting it)

Thank you for the replies, im getting a new alternator so i can rule that completely off the list also after close inspection i noticed a rather large crack in the alternator casing, pictures of earth point that are common to fail would be very helpful in fact all pictures relating to this issue will be very helpful indeed and as for the diagnostics we have all state of the art gear at work so as soon as i get her started up again i will be getting her checked over, again thank you peeps tomorrow i will be trying all your methods as alternator doesn't come until next week. Yeah man sorry completely forgot I was going to get you some pictures up! :bang:

Here you go:

This one is the battery earth point - always worth a regular check (y)

And this one is the earth point on the gearbox:

The line my finger is resting on is the clutch line, the one under that with the nut on the end of it is the earth point (y)

There is an engine earth somewhere but I can't find it :( Hopefully someone can tell you where that is, but check these for a good solid connection and check for corrosion. And if you have a multi-meter then check it for voltage - once you have your battery back in of course (y) iirc you shouldn't get any more than 0.1v or 0.01v, can't remember which :( Good luck with that anyway man. Once you have the alternator in and the battery hooked up it should hopefully eliminate a lot of the warnings you've been getting, otherwise it's more digging through the electrical stuff! (n)

:) ALL SORTED :)
turned out to be my rear light having corrosion on the terminals that what was causing the short out, any ways got my new alternator straight from fiat for £175 so all good there. many thanks for everyonessuggestions al i did them all just in case (y)
