Hi all,

Got another problem with my Fiat Stilo Schumacher GP =(. when I set off a bit too early from a roundabout and think I better put my foot down it "chokes" slows right down and then rockets off.

I have also noticed it on the motorway when you try to accelerate past someone it feels slow?

I have changed the plugs and cleaned the throttle body but no change. I read somewhere that it could also be the map sensor?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

mmmmm thats a funny one? in the olden days when cars had carbs, this was a common thing ( usually when the engine was cold and you pushed the choke in to early ), you would go to pull off at an island in a hurry, and it would just stutter then burst into life and pull away. if you have changed the plugs then it may well be your "air mass sensor" located at the top of the air box, this reads the amount of air flowing into the engine and meters the fuel acording to the revs, engine temp etc etc. if its faulty, it may well be injecting less fuel at low revs?

also, have a check of the intake pipe going from the top of the airbox and going to the throttle body, if theres a split, then it'll be letting in more air which has'nt been picked up by the air mass sensor and you'll find the engine will be running lean (more fuel needed - just like pushing the choke in on an old car when its not warm enough)

hope this helps (y)

Thanks gadgemyster i will check my air intake and keep you updated. might get custom built air intake. I noticed the part of the air box that sits under the battery had a hole in it so i have mended that but it has made no difference.

it maybe a coil breaking down as the car will run fine under normal conditions but when any power is used the car hic ups and falters, get the garage to check the coils out and replace the one breaking down, I have changed a couple on my Schumi over the last six years and 53000 miles which isnt too bad.

:yeahthat: Classic symptom of a failing coil. I too had one go and I replaced all five as a precaution. Ran like a dream after that.

Thanks Guys for the responses ill go get it sorted my gear box oil is also low what oil does it take?

Hi Guys,

So I had all the spark plugs changed and it drove fine for a while and then the problem occurred again while driving down the motorway. I also keep getting the smell's of what seem to be like rotten eggs when accelerating to 70mph.

so today I decided to take the coil out of the first cylinder to find this ( picture below ) I have also checked the other coils which look normal. Any advice would be appreciated. also I have noticed this other "thing" seems to leak what is it ( you guys probably will know straight away. )

sorry the pictures are so large.

That coil looks iffy - I would replace it. The rotten eggs smell is related to the operation of the catalytic converter.

Can't see much wrong in the other pic. The slight dampness showing will be oil, not petrol. The component is the variator solenoid which is not part of the fuel supply...

I did a bit of reading last night about the cat and it defiantly smells like eggs.

I also read somewhere to smell the radiator and engine oil.
the radiator smells normal but my engine oil smells of petrol.

Also thanks for the replies about the pictures. I am going to replace the coil it is the only coil that keeps getting that " dusty " residue on it.

I don't smell petrol while driving or standing still. I just smell burning oil after a long drive.
