Hi all, I have a jtd 115 and I am always keeping the map sensor clean to try and keep my mpg up.

The question is, is it ment to be dirty as in covered in black stuff. And if I put a little rag inside the whole I pulled the map sensor out it comes out completely black. Oil is on the rag.

Is this normal???

also would a non fiat map sensors be better?

Cheers guys:slayer::slayer::slayer:

The black crap you find on the MAP sensor and in the inlet manifold is a combination of oil vapour from the engine breather and crap from the exhaust(let in via the EGR valve), yes this is normal and yes it does cause problems.

Are non Fiat MAP sensors better? No.

But they do work well most of the time.

Ok cheers for that, so now that I have completely blocked off the egr and cleaned the map sensor all should be well.
Well the map sensor on the car is working well I think, well I don't know really. But as it has most probably never been changed before would it be worth getting a new one? Would it actually help the turbo and the idle of the car as I have read on threads on here.
