Fiat Stilo Loss Of Power?

Hi, my stilo has lost quite a lot of power. It won't start to kick in until I reach around 2000rpm and even then, its not the same as it used to be. For example, at a round about, buses are pulling at the same speed as me, and for me to go faster, I really have to put my foot down.

The engine light came on around two weeks, ago. When I connected it to the ecu scanner, it came up there was a fault with the egr valve. Tried cleaning it, but engine light came up again, so got it replaced today, and the lights gone.
Before that, I had a hole in the intercooler pipe, and got that replaced to.

What else could be the cause to my loss of power? Also I'm only getting 42mpg return, both city and motorway.

Any suggestions on what I should do next?
I'm thinking of taking it to a fiat garage, and get it all done once and for all.

Thanks

Re: Fiat Stilo Loss Of Power?

I'm no expert but I would have said EGR valve. I had power loss issues too and it eventually failed on me resulting in a new valve, replacing that sorted it for me. As you have done this I would suggest the MAF sensor. Like I said I'm no expert, far from it, someone will be able to offer better advice (y)

Re: Fiat Stilo Loss Of Power?

I'll second what Phil said.

You've already checked and replaced the obvious so the MAF sensor is next. Try unplugging it and taking it for a drive, if it feels better you have a faulty MAF and it needs replacing.

Re: Fiat Stilo Loss Of Power?

Right okay, so I should do that before going to fiat right?
Thanks for the reply

Re: EGR Valve Faulty On 1.9 JTD - suggestions needed

You weren't joking when you said you don't know anything about mechanics, sound like you don't know much about cars in general. :p

reg number = the letters and numbers on your number plate

Brilliant :ROFLMAO:

What's the MATTEr with My JTD?! Help Please

Hi people, my stilo has loss of power and low mpg. my last mpg reading after filling up a tank was 38mpg, 42mpg on the motorway. Ridiculous!
The engine light was on a couple of weeks ago. Turned out i needed to change the intercooler pipe (had hole in it), and the egr valve. Changed them both with a brand new replacement, and still no power. So i decided to change the MAF Sensor, and still no difference whatsoever????
Im thinking of taking it to a fiat dealership, but they wanna charge me 35 pounds per half hour, and its not guaranteed theyll find the fault.
The problem with the car is that, it wont start to pick up speed until it reaches 2000rpm, and thats if i floor the accelarater. im being left behind by buses in roundabouts.

can some1 please tell me what i should do next?
i have a fiat stilo 1.9 multijet 120

thank you very much.
Could it be a clogged up air and fuel filter?

p.s - i had a fault with my glows plugs, after changing all foour, for a set of bosh glow plugs, the car doesnt start first time in cold mornings? even though i had no problem with starting before, even when the glow plugs were faulty.
what could be the cause of this?

Re: What's the MATTEr with My JTD?! Help Please

Have a look at the vnt actuator and boost solenoid valve maybe. Find the vnt actuator fitted to the turbo, if someone else can start the car for you, you should see the actuator pull the rod in about 10mm. Then switch the car off and as the vac drops the rod should push back out(slowly probably)
When it stops moving start car again and should pull rod in again.
If you have fes you can do an actuator test which will operate actuator
(engine off I think, so it soon runs out of vac)
If you have on ramps you can disconnect pipe to actuator and use a syringe to pull a vac but it takes -0.6 bar to pull actuator to the stop.
Not saying this is it but it's free to see if it's moving o.k.

Does yours have a DPF fitted..? as 120 Mjet Multipla's do.
Can you disconnect the MAF, then drive around, if difference in power, then change MAF for genuine Bosch one.

Re: EGR Valve

Think that one is for the 16v Multijet, hence flange is bigger..

It's supposed to be, I was in replying to the post before(above) my own:

Hi, I'm not sure what a dpf is?
But I have disconnected the MAF senr and drove round, but there was. Improvemeim gonna change the oil, air and fuel fitler, and see if there's an improvement. Other than that, I can't think of anything else. MPG is down to 38MPG ridiculous!!

DPF = Diesel Particulate Filter. Fitted within the exhaust system. If short journeys always made, it re generates all the time, which creates coking up etc etc. Most owners with a DPF have it removed as they are more problems than there worth, Invented for emissions control. Many Fiat and Alfa owners have these removed, esp on the multijet engines and just put back a section of pipe.
