Hi, I'm new here so hello :wave:

I've had my 54 plate 1.6 Stilo for just over a year now and have had no problems at all with it until recently. However, the last month or so, the engine warning light (complete with an irritating beeping) has started to come on when I'm doing around 70 mph. Nothing happens to how the car is driving, it just beeps incessantly until I slow down, then it shuts up. I've had it on a diagnostics machine, but no fault is showing. Just wondered if anyone else has had this and, if so, what was it?

Also, it cut out on me the other day while I was in the outside lane on a dual carriageway letting a HGV pull off the slip road, so about the most inconvenient place ever! Just lost power, dash lights came on and died. I screeched over to the side of the road, hazards on, and within less than a minute, it fired up again fine and hasn't done it since. Took it to my tame mechanic who can't find anything wrong. Again, has anyone had this happen?

Thanks muchly :):idea::wave:

The electrics didn't go off though; my stereo was still playing and the heater was on... it was more like it stalled at 65mph.

Good Morning And Welcome to the Forum,

Just for clarity, your speed limiter is not set, perhaps, at 70mph, if so that will cause the beeping and triangle to appear.

I've been getting the same thing, done a round trip of 90 miles and it flashed up for 2 seconds with no issues, scanned and no faults, guessing its a typical fiat

Would the speed limiter cause the "Engine Fault" message to come up though? I'll have to dig the manual out cos I can't operate any of the computer without instructions!

no, I've never had my speed limiter turned on and I had the engine fault message too

My speed limiter is active, I have it set to 95mph. All that happens when you reach the set limit is you get a speed limit light on the dash and a few beeps. No EML or power loss, loosing power could be dangerous.

You are sure that this beep/engine light is corresponding with speed? Maybe with acc pedal position. I had this - it was caused because of clicking off TB connector.

No I'm not sure, it just seems to happen around about that speed. It doesn't seem to affect the car, it's just flippin' irritating!

The loss of power thing was a completely different issue but it's not happened again since. It has made me very wary when driving though because it happened when I was in the outside lane, big HGV to my left just pulling onto the road, car up my arse and another slip road coming up. I eventually stopped right at the end of a slip road and all I could thing was that I hoped the people pulling on were looking ahead as well as over their shoulders!

Can you run a check,
put the car in neutral and rev it to what the reves would be at 70, if memory serves its around 4-4.5k, then hold it there for a few seconds. If you get the same error then it has to be timing wandering or stretched belt.
If it dont then it could be one of the asr sensors playing up and getting a speed missmatch on the front wheel (i stumbled accross this when i had the wifes car in the air and got the error when the wheels were turning only on one side).
just my two pence worth
roy
