My first post so be gentle. I've just taken ownership of a 2004 "54" ref fiat stilo 3dr. 68000 miles, full service history and cambelt within the last 3000miles, cost me £1100. Is that a decent price?

Also what sort of mpg can I achieve with mainly town driving? I'm only seeing on average about 26mpg?

Any help appreciated

Hi.

Welcome to the Fiat Forum. £1100 is a very decent price to pay. Any errors on the dash? :) Pictures of the car?

I'd say 26 MPG is very good for town driving, The 1.8 is described to go around 20 MPG in town driving, but it really depends on how and where you drive it.

It did have an oil pressure low, but this has been resolved as the car wasn't in use for 6weeks so needed running in again. I only asked about mpg as i had a diesel mg zr before so was comparing to that.

The car does have a meaty growl and I thought this could be to do with a hole in the exhaust/performance air filter? But do all 1.8 have this noise?

What do you mean by meaty growl? :) It's a pretty loud engine as it is a sports engine nevertheless, but if you don't rev the engine too much it can be very quiet as well.

Are you talking about it sounding like a diesel?

mine has a nice meaty note but it also has a gsr to help it out!. nice 1.8 engines :)

town driving wise ive never seen below 30mpg. i was on a mix of town and country roads today and im currently sitting at 46mpg

1.1k is a good price :)

How much you pay for your gsr? Tbf to my mpg I'm still getting to grips with the car so am not driving sensible at all.

I'll have a look at an induction kit in the future, but at the minute its plenty fast enough, especially from 30-80.

Is there any way I can play music from my phone through the cd player or is it easier buying a cd multichanger?

I just use a GOOD quality bluetooth FM transmitter, nexus I think it's called. Keeps phone charged too (y). I'm an audio engineer so usually quite picky about these things, but quality is enjoyable enough when you find a good freq. I believe you can fit an aux connection if you want to do some soldering but it's a pain.

The 1.8 is growly, fun though :). I get the oil pressure warning too, seems common on the 1.8. You'll probably find you get it again. Economy for me isn't great even with sensible driving, there's a recent thread on this and the main difference I think is the 5-speed vs 6-speed gearbox rather than the engine size. I used to have a 1.4 so have something to compare it with.

£1100 is a decent price!

duno 44mpg average from my 1.8 XD. never had the pressure light other than when its stalled on me... (obviously i never stalled it did it :p)

Unless I'm going about 55mph on the motorway I don't get close to that. 34 mpg at 67mph approx. 44 is higher than my 6-speed 1.4 was.

Not sure what the pressure light is yet, only seems to happen when turning right sharply at very low speed! Think oil was overfilled before I got it, reading always at max.

There was a recent thread on the oil pressure warning fault. If its not still in the first page of this section it won't be far back. I havnt read it so don't know if it has a resolve.
