Right, after a long research into the CAN bus, I'm still stumped. Basically I've added a new steering wheel with buttons on my stilo. Problem is, the stilo has no connection for buttons on the connector going into the clock spring therefore I had to wire the can bus on my own. I wired them onto pin 1 and 3 from the CN+ by using those clipping thingies. I reckon it should work, but, when I turn the key on, the buttons turn on (the light) for a second, then disappear and don't work :bang: Have I connected it in the right place?

I like a challenge to be honest but seriously I've spent the last 3 hours checking everything. One curious thing I've found is that on FES, the CN+ was stated as present on the Can bus info, but after connecting the buttons on the same lines, it says not present. But the CN+ says on the service menu that the Can network is present.

Also if anyone could translate this from german I would be over the top (and will give a pint for it if you're coming to Brooklands this year):
Gibts in rot und blau entsprechend des Querschnitts der Leitung z.B. bei ATU

am Draht "HELLBLAU/SCHWARZ" des "MY CAR" Steckers klemmen.

Die markierten Leitungen "CAN A / CAN B" zum Radio / CN+ verlegen, und mit gezeigter Klemme anklemmen....

Markierte Leitung "CAN A" an die im weißen Radiostecker befindliche Leitung PIN 3 schwarz/rosa anklemmen !

Markierte Leitung "CAN B" an die im weißen Rasdiostecker befindliche Leitung PIN 1 weiß/rosa anklemmen !

WURDEN DIE CAN LEITUNGEN VOM MUFU NICHT RICHTIG AN DIE CAN LEITUNGEN DES CN+ ANGEKLEMMT
( MUFU CAN A > CN+ CAN A, MUFU CAN B > CN+ CAN B ) ÄUSSERT ES SICH SO:
CN+ ERHÄLT KEINE UHRZEIT / DATUM / TEMPERATUR VOM BC, DAS MUFU FUNKTIONIERT NICHT !!

Radio / CN+ wieder einbauen.

"MY CAR" Bedienblende wieder anstecken und einbauen.

Mufu Tasten testen. "MY CAR" Tasten testen.

Any help would be gladly appreciated!
Andy

Let's try a translate:

=======================================================
Depending on diameter available in red or blue from ATU (supplier)

clamp on lightblue/black wire from MY CAR connector.

Marked wires CAN A/CAN B to the rear of the radio or CN+ and clamped as shown.

CAN A connects to pin 3 black/pink in the white radioconnector.

CAN B connects to pin 1 white/pink in the white radioconnector.

IF NOT CONNECTED RIGHT

(MUltiFUnctional steeringwheel CAN A > CAN A on CN+ and MUFU CAN B > CN+ CAN B)
THE CN+ will get no time/date/temp info from the BodyComputer and the MUFU will not work.

Remount CN+.

Remount MY CAR switchunit.

Reconnect the batteryground. Set clock/date on CN+ or MY CAR menu.

Switch on/start engine and wait till CN+ startup is complete.

No airbagfailure should be displayed.

Now test the Multi FUnctional steering wheel and the My Car switches.
=====================================================

Hope this helps. Think that red or blue 3M clamps are used to make the connections.

Hmm, apparently I can't edit my last post. Well here it goes then:

I've checked elearn for all the wiring diagrams and I can confirm that D47 pin 3 is Can B and pin 4 is Can A. D47 being the connector on the clock spring. So I have correctly connected the buttons to the can bus.

Will check again the connection now. I will really appreciate any help!

Andy

LE: I wish to thank A3jeroen for the translation and to Davren for the Steering wheel and CN+. I've sorted everything now! Will post a guide as soon as possible to show how to retrofit a steering wheel and a CN+ as proposed by Dave (when your stilo is not predisposed for a CN+). In the german website, there was a photo saying that CAN B was on pin 4 and CAN A on pin 3, which misguided me (it's the other way around, see above for the connections on the D47 plug). I'm a happy stilo'er now :D

:eek:Welcome. Luckily dutch is not a very European language so we have to have some knowledge of the more often used languages.

Glad it's sorted now. Never trust German pictures is todays lesson i'd reckon:D

True, the more languages you know, the better (y)

Haha, I guess that's the lesson today. Will post a guide though today or tomorrow which will explain everything for everyone. It's actually not as daunting as it looks in that german site.

Btw, this is the site: http://fk2000.stilo.info/mufu.htm

Cheers again A3jeroen!

Great guide, thanks.
One question, is there anything wrong if i get a clock spring from a car that has been in an acidente, and has open airbags. I think not, but just to be shore it is better to ask :D so i do not get an airbag in my face :D

No.. the clockspring is not affected by the airbag going off.

The important thing with a clockspring is that the two halves of it have not turned in relation to each other. When supplied new, the two halves are locked together with a red, break-off locking tab.

If you take a clockspring from a damaged car, turn the steering wheel to the straight ahead position before removing the steering wheel, then don't allow the two halves of the clockspring to turn while removing, or fitting it to your car.

Thanks for answering quicker Dave ;)

As Dave said, make sure when you take the steering wheel out, the two halfs of the clock spring won't move in relation to each other (to do that just use a cable tie for example, thanks goes to Dave again for that one as well (y))

Thanks for the info, but what if the "damage" is already done as the closk spring is already taken off a car? Can i fix?
If no, what is the fiat product code for abarth clock spring? Hope it is not to expencive :)

If the clockspring has already been turned, (or you suspect it has been) you will need to centralise the two halves.

Without the locking clip fitted, you will find that the top half can be turned about 90º each way before it stops, but if you hold the central black ring (1st picture) down, it can be turned further.

While holding the black ring down, turn the top half of the clockspring to the left until you feel a resistance (don't force it past the resistance). Then count the number of 360º turns it takes to turn it until you feel the resistance in the opposite direction (will probably be about 5 turns).

Turn it back to the left, half the number of turns it took from full left to full right (about 2½). The coiled ribbon cable inside the clockspring will now be centralised, but the top and bottom halves may not be exactly aligned.

To align the two halves, turn the top half the shortest distance (either left or right), until the two square locking clip holes (2nd picture) are aligned with each other, then put a cable tie through the two square holes to stop them turning.

Remember to cut the cable tie off once the clockspring has been fitted.
