Evening fellas - Just need a bit of advice really.

My 03' plated stilo's roughly got 62000 on the clock .. Im prepared to get the cambelt changed soon, before i call round and ask for a quote thought i ask on ere basically, has anyone had one done recently? How much should i be looking to pay?

Cheers

I got one done last year at an independent garage, I think it was about £250 - 300. Can't remember exactly as I got it done as part of a service.

You can expect to pay about £75 - £90 for a good quality kit plus your labour. If you can get the full package for £225 - £250 I think thats reasonable. Its more important to get it done correctly first time though by a competent motor engineer than save a few quid and have to get remedial work done. GET IT DONE RIGHT FIRST TIME !

I would agree with alsimmo on that actually, I think mine was done cheaper but not sure how well it was done. Had some strange rattling noises whilst idling after it was done, no idea what it was but I don't have the car anymore anyway. Probably worth at least a look at a Fiat / Italian car specialist, if not a dealer.

As said find a Fiat/Alfa specialist near you. If you live nearish to Aylesbury i can recommend Paul at A for Alfa/F for Fiat. His website gives prices for servicing and cambelt changes.

Having mine done for £90+ VAT at D R Automotive in ards for the NI folk amongst us, they've never let me down before so hopefully this time won't be an exception :)

Edit: that's just for labour I'm supplying the belt and tensioners myself!

If i was to supply the cambelt myself should i be looking for any particular brand or are they pretty much standard?

I paid around £150 inc vat for the labour and supplied the kit my self . Just make sure they do the waterpump as well as i had mine done at 50k and only had the belts and tensioners done. 30k later waterpump seized and i was lucky to get away with no damage despite it jumping 3 teeth!!!!!
lesson learned cheap isnt always good .

Thanks for all the help ..

Got a quote of £225 all in..with my trusted local independant garage ..sorted (y)

If that includes the kit then it's about right. But just make sure it's a good brand kit as stated in the earlier posts. Usually fiat dealers use Dayco (and I think it's stated somewhere in the user manual as well).

Good luck with it!

Hello

Sorry I don't mean to hijack this thread but I have a quick question! Its not worth me starting a new thread.

This morning when I started the car up there was a screech/squeal only for a moment though, on the drivers side. Could this be an early sign of the cambelt slipping and needs replacing?

Thanks

Phil

hi mate got it done yesterday it actually cost 90 quid for the kit incl tensioners i believe 50 for the waterpump and 2 hour labour at 35ph..
